Rewind 6 months. I just got a settlement for my car (accident) and changed from T Mobile to a Family Plan with AT&T with the wife. Bought a brand new Palm Centro, and spoke to the guy for what must have been 30 mins about how important insurance is and how I've never purchased a phone or a wireless plan without insurance. He even asked me if I wanted to keep the insurance on the little lady's phone as well. Obviously I said yes, as who the hell wouldn't? Fast foward 6 months and here I am: My phone has a cracked screen, is out of warrenty, and apparently is NOT insured. I've been on the phone all morning with Palm, the insurance company, AT&T, and the specific rep that sold me my phone. Not only do I not have insurance, but it will cost me $200 to fix it (not to mention shipping costs) and I'm not eligible for any kind of upgrade or assistance until March 10, 2010. Even after explaining to everyone I could talk to that: A. Its not my fault someone didn't put insurance on my account B. My wife has been with them for over 10 years C. Never missed a payment once D. Have referred 2 different friends to AT&T and gotten paid for their referral. No one is willing to do anything to help. So here I am with a broken phone, a headache, and a business card to the person who ed it all up for me.

They told me if I could provide proof in paper form, if I brought it to an AT&T core store I might be able to do something. But I'm fairly certain I don't have anything like that. The wife has an upgrade coming, so we might use that. But yeah, I don't know right now.

It's only $200 so it's not a bank breaking cost. How much a month is insurance anyway? I'm curious where the break even point is.

Its 4.99 a month for insurance, and 200 definatly doesn't break the bank. I'm just pissed about the whole thing. I'm very aware that I should have checked my bills to make sure I had what I thought I was paying for, but at the same time, if I ask for something, and we discuss it, and you have me confirm that I want it, why the hell shouldn't I feel comfortable that this person did their job.

I attempted to "complain" about him to AT&T, but they said there was nothing I could do but go to the store manager in person.

That's why I only use pre-paid phones, I'm too paranoid when it comes to contracts, and rightfully so. That sucks, dude.

I would go to the store and speak to the manager, but make damn sure you do NOT go in there with an attitude. Go in there and speak to him calmly, and respectfully, and you might get some help.

That really sucks man. If you could prove you have the warranty you have to get a new one

$5 a month it's about 3 years 4 months to break even. Then you have to factor in the depreciation of a cell phone. I'm sure they depreciate very, very quickly in most cases. I'd pass on the insurance myself just because I normally don't buy any extended warranties or anything like them on anything.

Too bad you can't RKO someone through the phone. But, Seriously same thing happened to my phone but i had a warranty for damage and such and it was clearly a screen crack. So i went to Telus(the phone company) and showed them and the ers told me it was "water damage" when it clearly wasn't, and they wouldn't replace my phone so i had to wait another year or so for my contract to finish up to get a new phone because at the time i was jobless so i couldn't afford a phone. Anyways dude good luck, Hopefully everything gets resolved.

The only thing I can guess. Because it happened to me. Is that sometime between getting the new phone and now maybe you changed your plan a little. Like more minutes, text,picture,t.v. Something and when you did that they ed up and didn't add back on the insurance. Happened to me 2 years ago. Luckily (I guess) the manager noticed this and they only charged me 40 bucks to fix it and they ended up giving me a new one because the other was ed up. The 40 bucks they charged me was for back insurance payments to make it current. See if they will let you do that because it would only cost you 30 bucks.
