I did that with How I Met Your Mother. I got in to the show during the writer's strike.. I ended up accidentally watching an episode (Arrivedercci, Fierro to be exact) and I liked it a lot. I acquired the first two seasons and half of the third, and watched them all in a matter of days.. I loved it so much, and now it's my 2nd favorite show ever behind Seinfeld.

Scrubs and Peep Show.
I first saw Scrubs back in 2007 on a channel here in the UK called E4. It was late night while I was trying to get to sleep and there was nothing else on. The first few episodes I remember watching were My Life in Four Cameras and the episode where JD tried to complete a triathalon. I thought it was pretty good. As I watched more and more episodes, I found myself watching it during the daytime as well. Eventually, I bought Season One on DVD so I could watch from the start and loved it. I must have watched it twenty times over by now. I was hooked, so I found a way of watching Seasons 2-7 online. Now I own the first six seasons, and plan on getting Season 7 (when it drops down in price), and Season 8 when it's released.
Peep Show was the same type of scenario. I'd heard a lot of good things about it, and one night, I decided to watch an episode of Series 5 with my brother on Channel 4. I once again thought it was pretty good, so it became a weekly thing until Season 5 ended. I missed the last episode, so I decided to watch every episode on TV through the Channel 4 on Demand service. I loved it. For Christmas I received Series 1-5 for a low price of £18.

X-Files was a show I never watched when it was on TV, but I started buying the DVDs and burned through the series in few months. Which was perfect timing since the newest movie came out right at the perfect for me. Also, dozens of anime have hooked me too.

Scrubs for sure.
Heroes I started watching and plowed through the first couple seasons in a short time.
Nip/Tuck, I ran through the first three seasons in less than a week.

I've felt that way with the following shows:
Freaks & Geeks Drawn Together Robot Chicken One Tree Hill Harvey Birdman The Office (UK)
There's probably more, but that's all I can think of for now.

that's how it was with Scrubs. I had seen like 2/3 episodes before hand, and I liked it, but never thought much of it. I picked up Season 2 on DVD once, and I was instantly hooked. I ended up getting Season 1, and have gotten every season since, and haven't missed a new episode since 06. The only season released I don't own as of yet is 7, but I just haven't had a chance to get a hold of it.

Lost. It demands you to get hooked... every episode has a cliffhanger.

I can't really buy DVDs because of money issues but as a kid I remember getting hooked on Dragonball Z when they used to show repeats of it on Cartoon Network. It made me buy a video game of it, the original Budokai. The game I went right through and enjoyed greatly, I wish I could buy DVDs because that would be a show I would look for.

Probably alot of the shows on Nick At Night. Like Fresh Prince. When i seen commercials about how theyre bring it to N@N, i was like "wow this show looks like the dumbest thing ever". And now, a couple years later ive seen every episode. Same thing except with Full House.

The reason i ask is because i'm currently in that situation with Alias. Funny you should mention Alias as that was the programme that got me into watching and buying tv shows on dvd. I'd read a review about Alias and they were all banging on about how good it was so i thought i'd give it a go and the rest is history.... Alias season's 1 and 2 are incredible television and i would urge anyone who hasn't seen them to watch it as it's that good. It is a shame though however, that season's 3, 4 and 5 are not nearly as good. Well, not in my view anyway. They are still good, but the first 2 season's set the bar extremely high. I totally agree, I consistently turned my friend down because I swore the show wasn't for me, but I now honestly say that seasons one and two are some of the best television I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I haven't been enjoying season 3 nearly as much as the last two. My friend said that I'll get into it more, but I just don't understand the need for such a huge change in the storyline - if its not broke, why fix it?

That happened to me with Dexter.
A friend of mine had season 1 on DVD, and i borrowed it after reading what it was about. Watched, and it became like my favorite show of all time. So then i bought season 2 on DVD and wathced the WHOLE season in one night!!! So now last fall i picked up on season 3 on showtime, and i cant wait for season 4.
