Love the Phillies lineup today. Basically a AAA and J.A. Happ. Werth is the only regular who's starting. They can't clinch home field any more and they've already clinched the division. No reason to start any regulars. Thanks, is that how the last day of the season works?

Mets end the dreadful 2009 season with a Nelson Figueroa complete game shut out and an Astros sweep. Thank god it's finally over.

Looks like Minnesota is going to have a 1 game playoff for the 2nd year in a row.

7 RBI's in ONE INNING FOR A-ROD! And despite missing the first month of the season, his streak of consecutive seasons in a row with at least 100 RBI's will NOT BE BROKEN!
Congratulations A-Rod!

I'm not watching the game, how'd that happen? The Yankees scored 10 runs in one inning and A-Rod hit a 3-run HR and a Grand Slam in the inning....it was pretty amazing.

Seriously... great season for A-Rod. To will his way to 30/100 after missing a month is nothing short of great.

GOD DAMN Joba is an awesome reliever. He works fast, he's ready to go, he's pounding the zone with strikes, and throwing 96!
As a starter, he's slow, nit-picking around throwing balls, can't put anybody away, walking guys, throwing 91.
He's just got a different look in his eye as a reliever. As a starter, he looks scared, like he's waiting for something bad to happen. As a reliever he just knows they can't touch him. He could end up being HUGE for the Yankees in the Playoffs out of the pen.
If Chamberlain pitches the 6th and the 7th, Hughes in the 8th, Mo in the 9th....if you only get FIVE INNINGS out of the pen, THE GAME IS OVER, and I expect more than 5 out of CC, A.J. and Andy pretty much EVERY night. Make it happen Girardi! THIS is a Championship formula.

Nothing A-Rod does is amazing anymore, he is a freak and one of the best players of this generation, just like with Pujols, you dont even get surprised anymore with what they both do when healthy.

Why are the Yankees running out their regular lineup on the last day of the season? They've got nothing to play for.

Why are the Yankees running out their regular lineup on the last day of the season? They've got nothing to play for. Because we're not playing until Wednesday. It would be stupid to sit there and get stale and not face game situations for 4 days and then try and snap back to competitive mode. We are a team that always starts slow in April and doesn't get competitive for a while...so sitting around doing nothing for very long could possibly hurt us. So we made sure everyone except Posada played today...Po was the manager. Everybody came out after the 10 run 6th inning anyway, so we just wanted to make sure all the regulars got some AB's to stay fresh, and all the key bullpen guys got some action today, and now everyone will be rested for Wednesday, but not have TOO much rest that they're stale out there.

You do not play, manage, own, or have anything to do with the Yankees other than root for them 14 times a month, stop sounding like Hal Steinbrenner with your astute observations. "According to OUR BOYS, and the astrological signs and the moon, getting lit up last night will mean a World Series victory 100-1" and all other ramblings you make.

The Phillies also don't play until Wednesday and are historically very, very slow starters in April. I'm so confused. Oh wait, there's no logic there.

Also, quick gripe about playoff schedule. The Phils/Rockies series has totally jacked up game times. Games 1 and 2 are starting at 2:30 EST (so right in the middle of the workday across the country and) and Game 3 is starting at (9:40 EST) which is very close to bed time everywhere but the west coast. Then they wonder why kids aren't interested in playoff baseball. Umm, it's because it's on when they're in school or in bed.

I think I'd bet everything I own that I've watched more Yankee games this year than Hal. And a lot of the time I'll watch the encore too....so I've probably watched 250 Yankee games this season, and that's on top of all the other games I watch that involve teams of interest. Baseball is a year-round activity for me.

Maybe in communist Russia or Phily, I know in Boston people stay up with the games, tehy bitch, but they stay up and watch em regardless of age

Aren't Philadelphia schoolchildren getting out around 3?

Well, when you watch a game over for a 2nd time and you already know who wins, it's easier to notice things like batter sequences, what hitters are less capable of hitting certain types of pitches in certain locations, and what pitches a pitcher is having trouble with, what they are throwing most or having trouble spotting, and what they usually throw in certain situations.
When I watch a game the first time, I just want to win and I'm focusing on what is happening at that moment, not really wasting time noticing any patterns unless they are glaringly obvious.
