- In 1998, the professional wrestling business was on fire; set ablaze at a temperature the business has never seen before. With the World Wrestling Federation sitting on top of the mountain, World Championship Wrestling not far behind and Extreme Championship Wrestling growing by leaps and bounds, no one within the business could see the end of this incredible high. Yet, through bad business decisions, even worse booking and the inability to make new stars, the fans would eventually turn away. Between the end of 1999 and 2001, the business would begin to take a downward spiral at a speed that no one would ever been able to foresee. By April of 2001, both World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling would be acquired by the World Wrestling Federation and Vince McMahon would have effectively monopolized professional wrestling in North America. With essentially the fate of every single person involved in professional wrestling in his hands, McMahon was feeling untouchable. Then, it happened...
- In 2002, WrestleMania XVIII would be the last show ever presented by the World Wrestling Federation as it was tagged "Our Bitter Farewell". An end would finally come to mainstream professional wrestling in the United States and promoting would soon fall back into the ways of local and territorial promoting. Wrestling had experienced what came to be known as The Wrestling Fallout. While some promotions would find their niche and do well for themselves, others would falter and regardless of these facts, there was still too much talent and so few well paying promotions for the talent to make a decent living. Some people would eventually leave the business, other would become weekend warriors and others would desperately hang onto the days of old, still looking for a dream that was not there. Or did they know something was coming? Something that could potentially revitalize the business?
- The year is now 2009 and while the economy is lingering in an endless downturn, the dreams of all those within this business have done quite the opposite. A new-day has been born and a new era is upon us, as Pro-Wrestling Gonzo is born. What is Pro-Wrestling Gonzo? It is a vigilante promotion, with a potential suicide mission to revive the business and take it back to the national level. Will it succeed? Only time will tell, so stay tuned for further announcements and see what events will transpire as wrestling goes gonzo!
