Who do you think will Machida's first title defence will be against? I heard that the winner of Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans will get a shot at him. But then there's Forrest Griffin and Anderson Silva, and Im sure if Forrest wins he is line for another shot at the belt.
So who do you think Machidas first title defence will be?

It's already been confirmed to be Shogun.

Yeah, I remember Dana confirmed it during the TUF finale.

Machida will destroy Shogun. Disagree, if Shogun can get him in the clinch he can tear him up.

Machida will destroy Shogun. Disagree, if Shogun can get him in the clinch he can tear him up. Virtually no one has been able to even catch Lyoto, let alone hold him long enough to do clinch striking. An aged, past-his-prime Shogun is going to be easy pickings for Lyoto. The only reason Shogun is even getting a title shot is because Rampage and Rashad are coaching this season's TUF while Forrest is going to face Anderson Silva. The only thing Shogun has done in the UFC so far has been to look horrible in his first fight and lose, look horrible in his second fight and win, then look decent in his last fight and put the final nail in Chuck's coffin. I honestly think anybody could've put that final nail in, though. I'm just not impressed, at all, with Shogun in the UFC. Unless he trains his ass off, he's going to gas out faster than he did against Forrest because Machida just won't be there whenever Shogun tries to land anything. I'm predicting Machida's third straight KO by the end of Round 2, at the latest.

I kind of agree with PdW. I think if Shogun really trains hard for this fight, it could be a good one. However, no matter how much Shogun trains and prepares, Lyoto will still be heavily favored.

It will all depend on Shogun's training and gameplan. I still do believe that Lyoto will more than likely beat him.

Ok here's a question. Whoever comes out on top in the Machida/Shogun fight. Who then will be the next challenger for the belt. Like I said before, it'll probably be the winner of Evans and Rampage.

You're right. The winner of Evans vs. Rampage will get the next shot.

I don't think Rampage will be able to beat him though.

The Shogun who ripped through Pride would be a great test for Machida. Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be the fighter who is going to be Machida's first challenger.

It's Machida/Rua at UFC 104.
It's also going to be Machida vs Evans/Rampage. Rua will get annihilated.

I think Shoguns gameplan should be, "Make Lyoto come to him". Counter strike all the way. Use Lyoto's own stradegy against him. Rua definetly has a shot and I find it very dumb how you guys are already counting him out.

How is it dumb, again? The Shogun of UFC looks nothing like the Shogun of PRIDE.
He gassed out in his first fight and lost. He gassed out in his second fight and won. He showed a spark of the old Shogun in his latest fight.
Meanwhile, Lyoto just KTFO'd two guys known for their brutal beatdowns and hard chins. Virtually no one has every done any significant damage to him. Doesn't matter how fast you are, and Lyoto has fought some pretty fast dudes. It's simply never mattered; he's just not there when you try to hit him.
Shogun is going to gas out hard because I honestly don't think he's going to fight a smart fight. He's going to go in there and try to shut up the critics and silence the doubters and look for the big knockout. He's going to spend all his energy going for the big power shot, and once Lyoto thinks the time is right, Shogun is getting his lights knocked out.
You put the Shogun of PRIDE against Lyoto and I'd be foaming at the mouth to watch that ****. But Shogun has fallen hard since making the transition to the UFC. I just don't see Lyoto having any sort of problem at all.

If not Shogun than who? I think Shogun has looked decent in all three fights in the first round. He looked great against Chuck who despite being forced into retirement was still a force to be reckoned with imo.
Rampage vs Machida is an interesting fight because honestly if Rampage can't win this fight than I think Rogan calling this the "Machida Era" will be 100% true and Machida will be holding the belt for quite sometime. I really don't think Rampage can win it. He has amazing power in his hands and he has never been KO'd or even knocked down from a punch he has only been KO'd from knees in the clinch from Wanderlei and Shogun. But the biggest problem he will face is Machidas speed. Rampage is not even close to being as quick as Machida so having that KO power means nothing when he won't be able to catch Machida. So honestly if Rampage can't get the job done I think Dana will be forced to sign the match that Anderson said would never happen.. Anderson Silva vs. Lyoto Machida.
what a crazy technical battle that would be...

If you been through a knee surgery you would know it would take 6 months-a Year to get your knee back to working conditions. Where you can really train. This fight will prove if shogun is really back. I'm excited!!
