WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. John McCain says he'll oppose Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor when the Senate votes on her confirmation this week. The Arizona senator calls Sotomayor a judicial activist who tried to walk back from that record during her confirmation hearings. He says President Barack Obama's nominee has used her position as a judge to try to change the law. McCain is one of several Republicans from states with heavily Hispanic populations to come out against Sotomayor, the daughter of Puerto Rican parents raised in a New York City housing project and educated in the Ivy League. McCain says Sotomayor's life story is inspiring and compelling, but he says that's not enough to qualify her for a position on the high court. www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/03/mccain-to-oppose-sotomayo_n_250282.html

Well he would probably retire pretty soon anyway so maybe he wants to lose because he is basically screwing his chances at re-election.
Oh well, I don't care, I'm just happy his old ass lost the presidency.

The only viable contender for the seat Democrats had, Obama took and put in charge of Homeland Security.

Doesn't he have like 2 more years in his term or is it 4? I forget. Senior Senators like that tend to stay in Washington forever. He ain't going anywhere unless he wants to.

He's up for re-election in 2010. Hispanics won't forget this and they'll vote against him for this, causing him to lose. Or he'll just flat out retire.

That's fine. I'd oppose her, too.

That's fine. I'd oppose her, too. On what grounds? She's quite moderate as she has sided with the defense 96 or 98% of the time. She has many more times than not turned down appeals from prisoners. What stops her from being conservative is her pro-choice stance. She's one of the most experienced jurists nominated in recent history. If you say the wise latina comment, I'll punch a baby.

Not on grounds of conservative vs. otherwise, or the wise Latina comment. Just a personal grounds of distrust that I cannot, for all my research or study, shake.

Just like the white racists were going to come out and vote against Obama. Racists (Now I'm talking the men) are usually sexist, so they had a tough time deciding who to vote for so they may have just not voted.

Well, fortunately for them, the GOP was able to snare all those racist women voters in by running Palin.
