Live our lives, lacking anything better to do. Devise reason later. Born from oblivion; bear children, hell-bound as ourselves, go into oblivion. There is nothing else. Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces.
...TBH.

Leave it to Carl Sagan, aka the MAN, to put it in great words. Rest in peace.
Anyone who thinks we're some kind of divine miracle and are the culmination of all that is good about the universe is either incredibly arrogant or incredibly ignorant..or maybe both.

I honestly think that people think we're far to important, when in fact we're not important at all. People always argue "There has to be a reason why we are here" Really? Why does there have to be a reason that were here? Even if there was a reason why we are here, why would it be an important reason at all? Why do we think we're such important creatures? Listen. There is a purpose for us to be here. It could be the smallest thing as to bring a kid into this world or do a kind deed to a person in need. That Is why we are here. WE are so unique that we are the only ones in this world. There are no one like us. there are no one other than us here,

This is like asking "What is the meaning of life?" Every one seems to have a different answer. Where just small little ants on this dirt mound we call life.

That's not a purpose, that is just how we live our lives, only because it's all we know how to do.

I hate when people say that. If they really understood God, they wouldn;t make foolish statements like that, even if they didn't believe in him. I kinda agree with him in a way. I mean I think I'm a pretty decent guy. I try and take care of my wife and daughter but the crap I have been through in my life is ridiculous. people on here wouldnt even beleive the crap that has happened to me. So I ask that all the time to my wife (who beleives in god) If he was real why would all this poop happen to me (or us). The way I look at it is if God helped everyone out, answered every prayer people would become too dependent on God to fix all their problems. But if God does nothing everyone would lose faith. So occasionally he or she does a miracle.

Thinking about that kind of stuff makes me think about this vieo: Now, you have to think that those are only a small, small, small, small, small part of the universe, so there has got to be other planets capable of sustaining life, right? But we would never be able to travel there because it would be billions of light years away. To me, a light year is almost an incomprehensible unit of measurement. You see where I'm going here? Thinking about the Universe, and god is full of mystery, paradoxes, and riddles. This picture always puts things into perspective. Click on the small picture to see the full size version. It's HUGE. "There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle." ~Albert Einstein

You kind of answered your own question in the topic title...no one likes to think that we don't matter. That's why we think we're so important.

I've been thinking about things like that, along with lots of other odd, seemingly insignificant things.
I was talking to a friend the other day about how a lot of Earth's downfalls have come as a result of us being so "evolved". Had we remained a somewhat simple animal, there likely wouldn't be any crisis facing the planet right now, and if there was, we wouldn't know left from right to care about it.

I see us, everyone, as artists. Our mediums are our appearance, our thoughts and opinions, our beliefs, and how we carry ourselves. And life is an art show. Too many people try to "fit in", leaving their art identical to everyone elses. But every once in awhile, in a rare occurance, you come across a piece of art so different, so unique, it changes you. It makes you stop and think. That's the kind of artist I am. While everyone else is painting the Mona Lisa, I'm carving a Roman coliseum from stone.
I read this story. An old man, nearing death, began planting apple trees in his yard. His neighbor looked over and said, "You stupid old man. You'll be dead by time those trees bear fruit!" The old man looked at him, and replied, "I know. And when my grandchildren, and their children eat the fruit from this tree, they'll be reminded of me. I will live eternally on earth through my memory."
It's an impression like that I want to leave. Everyone, in some way or another, wants fame and fortune. While that'd be nice, I just want to be heard. Not by yelling louder than everyone else, but by having something different to say. If I can have the oppurtunity to change one life, my life will fulfill it's worth. If I can stop one person from making a bad decision, or encourage them to make a great one, I will consider myself successful. I don't want to be greedy or arrogant, but I want to be heard, recognized, and remembered.
Life is such a precious, delicate thing. At any moment, and I can say this through my own personal experiences on Earth, life can be created, and life can be destroyed. I've experienced both numerous times, each time effecting me in a different way. I will never understand why people will spend their short time on the Earth as a puppet. I believe that there is a reason why humans became the superior species on Earth. It's because we have the ability to think for ourselves. In the animal kingdom, everything is done in the same pattern over and over. Think about it; the caterpillar eats leaves, goes into it's cacoon, and emerges a butterfly. Every caterpillar goes through this ritual, then dies. There is no individuality in the animal kingdom. We possess that unique skill to think for ourselves; to never follow a set life. Yet, for some reason, some people choose to walk this Earth as a chameleon, changing themselves in everything around them, looking for acceptance. I have chosen to take full advantage of the free-thought process we have had bestowed upon us, and develop my own vision of life, rather than letting society do it for me.

As I read through this I'm finding something disturbing: People don't understand God! Horrible things happen to everyone. A close family to mine have lost two children: one to SIDS when the baby was only two weeks old, and another one who was one of my best friends to cancer when he was 13 last year. However, through all of this, this family has persevered and are using these tragedies to preach the Gospel message throughout the world. I firmly believe that God sends tragedies, just as much as Satan sends them. Satan, for turning you against God; and God for testing your faith in him. Trust me, I know people have it hard nowadays. Money, security, death, and so many other things happen to shake you; but you have to stay strong in God. If you don't believe in God I'm not pushing anything on you, as I wouldn't want you to push anything on me, but that is just my opinion on the subject.

People in general have this 'ego' about us... That we have the need to feel important, when in reality; there's no measure small enough to explain how tiny we are in the grand scheme of things.
