Just asking, as a lot of people tend to call fans "marks" on here.

I just consider a mark to be anyone who's in a adolescent state of fanship. Meaning that they know little to nothing about what really goes on inside/ behind the curtain of pro wrestling. It's not a bad thing. Sometimes I wish I could enjoy every match as if I were watching my favorite sports team.

We here at least I think most of are ''FANS'' and not marks in order to be a mark your
1. a child
2. really think it's all real
3. Believe story lines
It's like in Football those guys at Greenbay games -20 and shirtless and painted those are marks man just acting like a foo is a mark in my eyes

They're the same exact thing. The only difference is the word mark is more "charged" while fan has a neutral connotation. You can try to assign labels to each but you'll run into problems. I can say "That little kid crying over Hardy is a mark" or I can say "I absolutely marked when Undertaker returned!" One represents a more extreme form of the other, that's all.

There is no difference, where if you're a mark, a smark or whatever the hell terms you come in with, we're all fans, and that's all we're seen as to WWE. Knowing inside business doesn't make you any more of a fan.

Basically, a lot of people refer to all fans as 'marks' in one way or another. I suppose a mark would be what Mr.PPV said earlier. But, I personally think that people just use the term to make themselves sound like less of a mark, or, like a more intelligent fan. When in fact, most people that use the term 'mark' are probably just a mark themselves. I only really like the term when its used like: "I totally marked when ..."
I don't know, I guess I didn't even come close to answering your question, but, I just really dislike the term 'mark.'
Because they seem to be the most hated form of a fan, but, the fact of the matter is, we've all been marks, and, most of us are marks in some sense. And, without marks, wrestling wouldn't be what it is.
And, to anyone that wants to respond by saying: "Your right, wrestling would be better without marks!" Just remember you were a mark when you were little for someone, whether it be Hogan, Hart, Warrior, Taker, HBK, Austin, Rock, Andre, Piper, Snuka, Steamboat, whoever...

There is no difference if you are a fan you are a mark. That isnt a bad thing at all though. Think of it this way, most WWE wrestlers, with the few exceptions like Great Khali, all grew up marks thats why they went for their dreams.

There is no difference. Mark is a carney word for fan. Wrestlers usually refer to all fans as marks. "Smarks" is an internet term for people like us to come on a message board and feel like we actually are educated to what goes on in the business, which actually makes us the biggest marks of all.
Since about 1997, the term mark has become something that internet fans use as an insulting term to describe fans that still believe kayfabe, when in reality we are all marks. If you watch wrestling, you're a mark. To try to argue that point just proves that you know crap about the business.

The term has certainly changed. 40 years ago, it simply meant people who thought wrestling was actual competition. Given the fact that wrestlers have been breaking kayfabe for 30 years (even Vince broke KF on RAW after Benoit's death), I don't think this is applicable anymore.
I think of marks as "style over substance" fans. Marks are the fans who are happy by seeing nothing more than wrestler A (almost always a babyface) beat up wrestler B. It's the fans who pop when a wrestler mentions the fan's town in an interview even if the wrestler can't put two sentences together otherwise. It's the fan who will swallow the same boring stuff over and over because the company tells them this is what they should like. Prime Example: Hulk Hogan fans.
The other type of fan is the internet/hardcore fan. This is the type of fan who demands, first and foremost, that the in-ring action be great. We want good skits, good interviews, and storylines too but the key ingredient to fans like this is what is on the marquee: wrestling. Prime Example: The Original ECW fans.
All that being said, we are all marks to some degree just like a fan of any fiction show/movie/book is a mark for the illusion of entertainment. We pay our money for PPVs, autographs, and figures. Whether you are a true mark or a hardcore fan, you still want to lose yourself in the show.

A fan is just a fan. They don't take it to the extreme.

i just think that wrestlers, mostly indy, call fans marks just so they feel better about themselves cause really aren't we all marks. watching, reading, or actually wrestling....we are all marks
