I'm just wondering this. ECW was the pinnacle for indy wrestling fans everywhere in the 90s, in my mind it peaked the internet in terms of wrestling and things like that with its edgy style.
But do you think that ROH has matched up to what ECW was without the extreme edgyness of the program in these past seven years?

ECW had a working relationship with WWF somewhat, for that I say ECW is still slightly above ROH.

I think ECW was still bigger. Looking at just PPVs, they were able to put one on every month for a few years & had a lot of buys.

I would say that ECW was a lot bigger than ROH. Had a larger PPV audience and a more vocal fanbase where as ROH has really not been that vocal about the product in terms of getting sponsers or more coverage. But ROH has done some things that other indy's will probably never succeed at so it's a toss up.

ECW had action figures and video games. When ROH gets those then we can discuss this question.

Its a damn good question but I feel ROH still has a while to go until they are near ECW's level.

The problem with the question is that ECW moved alot quicker than RoH is. RoH has been going on for 7 years, that was the duration of ECW (not counting their years as Eastern). So, think about it: in the same timeframe RoH has been around, ECW was formed, got TV (twice), got PPV, had national publicity with WWF for a few months, got figures, video games, had a talent exchange of sorts with WWF, and went bankrupt.
RoH only just recently got PPV & a TV deal. They're far behind the old ECW's level.

I still consider Ring Of Honor an independent wrestling promotion. Even though they now have PPV, they are just a top notch indy I think. ECW was an actual promotion with TV, PPV, Merchandising, etc. Wrestling was also much hotter back when ECW was around, so I would say overall ECW was bigger and more popular.

I agree i have actually had this conversation with a couple old friends and we have come to the conclusion that ROH is Very Damn close to being as big as ECW they have a tv show as well as PPV's but like said above they do not have action figures or a video game so that is a big difference but in my heart i see ROH being their very soon

no. it's probably never going to get to ECW's level because wrestling's never gonna get that popular again for decades. its something fresh just like ECW is, and gave a lot of people a place to shine and actually wrestle, but no ROH isn't near ECW and this is coming from a big ROH fan

ECW had action figures and video games. When ROH gets those then we can discuss this question. Agreed. ECW started indy, but it just developed into a level not seen before. It wasnt WWE....but it wasnt indy. It was a step or 2 above indy, yet 10 steps below WWE.

Good question, and IMO, I don't wish to compare, but ECW was truly one the those things that hit at the right time, to the right people, with the right talent, and by virtue of what they were doing, were able to affect everything else around them...
ROH have been around for roughly the same amount of time, but still retain the top indy feeling, despite their PPV deal, international touring, etc...

As far as a mainstream, non-wrestling audience, no, because people knew what ECW was, but everytime i wear an ROH shirt I usually still have to explain what it is.
As far as wrestling is concerned, ECW again, because all the stuff said above me.
