Under the Logan act, it's basically treason for these lawmakers to visit foreign leaders that the US does not recognize as legit.

It's rarely, if ever enforced. A couple of years ago, Pelosi opened a dialogue with Syria which sponsors terrorism and with home the US has no diplomatic ties. Nothing happened to her.

But we recognize them as a legit government. And a government that I would get tossed in the klink for contacting on a regular basis. At the very least the CIA would rake me over the coals.
