Before reading the show, let me remind you that this fed uses a radical new booking strategy where I don't get to decide the winners, but rather they are chosen randomly. I went as far as to sign a piece of paper saying I would not change anything that happens. So, with that in mind, please enjoy the show...
WWA 1
To Crown a Champion
November 1, 2009
WWA kicked off with a bang, featuring an eight-man tournament to decide the first ever WWA Heavyweight Champion. The first wrestling fed about the athletes showed why in one of the most explosive promotion debuts we have seen in a while.
FIRST ROUND MATCH: Shelton Benjamin def. Charlie Haas (7:36)
The show opened with a highly technical bout pitting "The Gold Standard" against "The World's Greatest Athlete." While both men showed off some of their strongest moves, it was Benjamin who picked up the victory, finishing off Haas shortly after the seven-and-a-half minute mark with a T-Bone Suplex. After the match, the two former tag team partners shook hands as a sign of sportsmanship.
FIRST ROUND MATCH: Jack Swagger def. Edge (12:22)
The second match of the show pitted "The All-American American" against the "Rated-R Superstar." While the multi-time former Heavyweight Champion, Edge controlled the action early, it was Swagger who took control of the match and looked rather dominant in the closing minutes. After planting Edge to the mat with the Swagger Bomb, Jack pinned him for the three-count victory and advancement into the tournament.
FIRST ROUND MATCH: William Regal def. John Cena (10:11)
"The Real Man's Man" William Regal came to compete tonight, as he looked like a man-on-fire as he pummeled "The Champ" John Cena. It took every move in the Brit's arsenal, but after several nearfalls and submission attempts, it was "The Champ"'s own STF that put the match to an end as Regal earned a submission victory.
Backstage, Brent Musberger caught up with the Commissioner of WWA, Dean Malenko, who announced that he had already had talks with at least three more athletes who wanted to be a part of WWA, and could make an announcement about some of them as early as tonight!
FIRST ROUND MATCH: MVP def. Randy Orton (10:02)
The fourth and final match-up in the first round of the WWA Heavyweight Title tournament pitted the "Playmaker" Montel Vontavius Porter against "The Viper" Randy Orton. Orton lived up to his billing, slithering away whenever MVP went on the offensive. The WWA's self-proclaimed Most Valuable Player let Orton in on the offensive, and the Viper took control for the last few minutes, but it was a reversal of Orton's patented RKO into a modified version of the Rock Bottom which put MVP on top with a pinfall victory.
Chris Jericho made his way down to the ring, surprising the fans as well as our announce team of Joey Styles and Matt Striker. Jericho complained about being left out of the WWA Pound-for-Pound Championship tournament, and having to face a "no-name" in Tyson Kidd at WWA 2. It did not take long for the "no-name" to respond, as he snuck up on Jericho, knocking him clear out of the ring and taking the microphone promising to prove to Jericho that he "wasn't the biggest snub from the Pound-for-Pound tournament," but rather Kidd himself!
SEMIFINAL MATCH: Jack Swagger def. Shelton Benjamin via unanimous decision (15:00)
The first semifinal match of the evening was also the first ever WWA match-up which went to a time limit draw, meaning that the final decision on a victory would be made by the panel of judges -- Jerry "The King" Lawler, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, and "The Revered" James Mitchell. The match was closely contested with several nearfalls, but the judges saw just enough from "The All-American American" to give him the victory.
SEMIFINAL MATCH: MVP def. William Regal (14:02)
We nearly saw two straight matches go to a judge's decision as the battle between MVP and Regal went to the final minute. Regal used his slow, methodical style which he executed so well on Cena, but may not have been ready for the rough-and-tumble style of the street fighter, MVP. Both men saw their advantages in the match, but with Regal on the ropes, MVP nailed the Englishman with his Drive-By kick for the pinfall victory.
NON-TOURNAMENT MATCH: Paul Burchill def. Ted Dibiase (12:43)
The night's only non-tournament match pitted "The Ripper" against the "Priceless" one. Between matches, Regal spoke to Burchill on the stage, appearing to give his fellow countryman some words on encouragement. Whatever he said must have helped the Ripper as Burchill controlled much of the offense, finally picking up a victory.
Commissioner Malenko came out on the stage before the main event of the evening and announced thta he would have two additional athletes competing on WWA 2 and another non-tournament match-up that he thinks the fans will enjoy. That match-up will pit former ECW, WCW, and WWE star Lance Storm against "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles!
WWA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Jack Swagger def. MVP (12:19)
The night's main event crowned the first ever WWA Heavyweight Champion as the "The All-American American" took on WWA's "Most Valuable Player." Commissioner Malenko was on hand as Michael Buffer perfromed the introductions and referee Steve Wentz revealed the big gold belt. The back-and-forth bout was everything it was hyped up to be, and saw each man's signature moves on display, but it was the Swagger Bomb which finished off the "Playmaker" for a pinfall victory.
As Dean Malenko awarded Swagger with the championship belt, William Regal and Paul Burchill appeared on the entrance ramp, staring down the champion. Burchill pointed at him, but Swagger merely shook his head, continuing his celebration.

Online exclusive: After the show, Swagger had a champagne celebration which would make major league baseball teams blush, receiving congratulations from nearly every WWA athlete, including MVP, John Cena, Shelton Benjamin, Ted Dibiase, and Edge. Regal and Burchill interrupted, and Regal assured Swagger that he should not take their threat lightly, as they planned to have the WWA Heavyweight Championship on a Brit before long.
