Hey,
Here's a new little article I'd like to start on some of the past Superstars of wrestling. If you are a newer fan, you probably haven't even heard of this former W.W.F. Superstar, but I'm going to highlight him anyway.
According to Gorilla Monsoon's commentary, he's from the 82nd Airborne, he's the one and only, Corporal Kirchner.
He didn't have the most successful career in the W.W.F., but I do believe he still holds an unbeaten record at WrestleMania of 1-0 by defeating the evil Russian Nikolai Volkoff in a Flag-Match at WrestleMania 2.
He also had 3 different W.W.F. LJN action figures. One was clean shaven, the 2nd variant had stubble and the 3rd and final, had a full beard. I believe the full beard version is clearly the rarest and most sought after LJN figures of all-time.
Corporal Kirchner also appeared in the first ever W.W.F. Wrestling Classic tournament, but was easily defeated in the first round by the late, "Adorable" Adrian Adonis.
After that, my memory is a bit hazy where he went from there. I know he left the W.W.F. and I believe went to Japan where he became Leatherface or Super Leather, not too sure which.
After that, I believe he eventually retired from active competition and now drives a transport for living.
There was a terrible report a few years back that Corporal Kirchner had passed away, but it ended up being false. I remember even reading about it on WWE.com but the name they said was Kirchner's real name, clearly wasn't.
Corporal's real name is Mike Kirchner, but WWE.com had some other guys name listed. I can't remember what it was, but it certainly wasn't Corporal Kirchner.
Either way, I'm glad he's still with us. I actually enjoyed some of his matches. He was pretty entertaining and his feud with Nikolai Volkoff was great.
If you've got some memories or stories of Corporal Kirchner, feel free to share them!! Thanks.
