Hey,
Back again here with another "Blast From The Past". This time around, we've got powerlifting great Ted Arcidi. As far as his wrestling career goes, there really isn't much to say about Ted Arcidi.
He was just kinda there and then he left, just as quick as he arrived. I mean, if you blinked, you might have missed him. I believe his debut match in the W.W.F. was against former long-time jobber Terry Gibbs.
Ted Arcidi was a massive individual and used a bear-hug as a finisher. At least, that's what I recall him finishing off Terry Gibbs with. I'd give up too if Arcidi slapped a bear-hug on me. I mean, that guy was friggin' huge.
He was also nicknamed "The World's Strongest Man" and even had his own W.W.F. LJN action figure. I didn't even think he was there long enough to warrant getting his own action figure, but I guess the good people at LJN thought otherwise.
I mean, Dino Bravo was there for years and years and STILL hasn't had an action figure in his likeness, but Arcidi stays in the W.W.F. for a few months, if that, and he gets one no problem.
Ted Arcidi also appeared in the big WrestleMania 2 Battle Royal which featured both W.W.F. Superstars and former N.F.L. greats like Bill Fralic, Harvey Martin, Russ Francis and William "The Refrigerator" Perry to name a few.
Like him or not, he was still good enough to have appeared at a WrestleMania. That's more than Sting can say, since he's never been there, but still.
I believe Arcidi now sells weight-lifiting equipment for a living. He certainly wasn't the greatest wrestler to ever lace up the boots, but he did leave his mark on wrestling and for that, I commend him.
If you have any memories or stories of Ted Arcidi, share them here!! Thanks
