Internet Pre-Show
Light Heavyweight Match: Kofi Kingston def. Tyson Kidd via Trouble in Paradise
Interdivision Match: A.J. Styles def. Charlie Haas via Styles Clash
Before the opening video even aired, Commissioner Dean Malenko stood in the ring with a spotlight shining down on him. Malenko announced that WWA was no longer. What was once World Wrestling Athletics is now the Midwest United States regional company in the United Text Feds of WF. Because of the new partnership, WWA has decided to rechristen itself... We are still the premier company for sports and entertainment on WF, but from today forward, we will represent it under a new name...
WWA's NC 8
"Mortal Combat"
Dec. 23, 2009
After a brand new opening package featuring the athletes of Northern Combat, Joey Styles and special guest Jerry "The King" Lawler welcome everyone to the show, and Styles lets us know that Matt Striker has been given the night off, but will return next week. Tonight's show emanates from Milwaukee, Wis.
"END OF THE LINE" GAUNTLET QUALIFYING MATCH: The Miz def. Cody Rhodes (8:12)
This match was very straight-forward, but still a good opener. The Miz made his way to the ring first to a chorus of boos, followed by Cody Rhodes who didn't receive too strong of a reaction either way. While Rhodes got some offense in in the early going, Miz dominated the match after sending it to the outside. He finally picked up the victory by hitting Rhodes with the Skull-Crushing Finale, making him the second-to-last qualifier for the "End of the Line" gauntlet and the first victor in NCSE.
Backstage, Dean Malenko spoke with Paul Burchill and Katie Lea in his office. He said he was disappointed with Burchill's interference in matches lately, but he understood the reasons for it last week. He announced that at End of the Line, we will see Burchill vs. Archer in a London Street Fight!
INTERDIVISION MATCH: John Morrison def. Chavo Guerrero, Jr. (8:36)
The debut of the two newest NCSE athletes took place in one match as each tried to set themselves up in the early gointg. Chavo made his way to the ring first, receiving a largely positive reaction in his debut, but when Morrison's music hits and the fans realized who was entering the arena, the crowd went wild. Morrison had the crowd behind him, and he used that to take on Chavo. "The Last of the Fighting Guerreros" battled back against "The Wednesday Night Delight", even setting him up for the Three Amigos suplexes at one time, but Morrison flipped out of it. He then hit Chavo with the Moonlight Drive, followed by the Star Ship Pain for a pinfall victory.
Part two of Brent Musberger's interview with Jack Swagger aired. Swagger said Lesnar would undoubtedly have ring rust. He doesn't care that Lesnar is a former UFC Champion, because the UFC is a completely different dynamic than WWA. He has ruled this company since day one, and it doesn't matter who has come in front of them, he has and will beat them. Swagger seemed more than confident heading into his match on Sunday the 27th.
SIX-MAN TAG TEAM MATCH: Chris Jericho, C.M. Punk, & David Hart Smith def. Lance Storm, Shelton Benjamin, & Ted DiBiase, Jr. (9:22)
Storm, Benjamin, and Dibiase made their way to the ring first to a mixed reaction, ready for this battle of those athletes who have already competed for the End of the Line Gauntlet match. Jericho, Punk, and Smith made their way to the ring to a chorus of boos. The match started out with Storm against Jericho, but quickly broke down into an all-out brawl which saw everyone hit their respective finishers. Ted Dibiase dropped Jericho to the mat with Dream Street, but then fell victim to a running powerslam from "The Canadian Bulldog." Hart Smith then received "Pay Dirt" from Shelton Benjamin, who fell victim to the Go 2 Sleep. After Lance Storm superkicked Punk from the ring, it looked like he had the victory until Jericho locked him in the Walls of Jericho for a submission victory. When Jericho refused to break the hold after the match and Punk assaulted Ted Dibiase, their new rivals, John Cena and M.V.P. ran to the ring to chase them off. Jericho threatened Cena and MVP as he and Punk left briskly up the entranceway.
Backstage, Commissioner Malenko was showing off the Wrestlympics Gold Medal to Brent Musberger, saying it was brand new, and he couldn't wait to see the event go down in February.
"END OF THE LINE" GAUNTLET QUALIFYING MATCH: Matt Hardy def. Colin Delaney (6:35)
The final qualifying match for the "End of the Line" Gauntlet match pitted the lone wolf against the underdog. Hardy made his way to the ring first to cheers, followed shortly thereafter by a lukewarm reaction to the former Light Heavyweight champion, Colin Delaney. It was a relatively quick match, but still hard-fought by both contenders. Nonetheless, Hardy overpowered his outweighed competitor, finally finishing him off with the Twist of Fate for a pinfall victory.
In the official contract signing and weigh-in for Edge and William Regal's heavyweight championship match, the champ came to the ring first and weighed in at 252 pounds. He quickly signed the contract and waited for Regal. When the challenger made his way to the ring, accompanied by Vance Archer, he experienced a sea of boos. Regal hopped on the scale, weighing in at 241 pounds. He then grabbed a microphone, saying he will not sign the contract until Dean Malenko steps down as commissioner! He claimed Malenko had screwed him over more than enough times now. When Malenko threatened to give the title shot to Paul Burchill, Regal stepped back, but then demanded that Malenko put the commissionership on the line in the match -- if Regal wins, Malenko steps down and Regal is the Champion and the Commissioner! After discussing it with Edge, Malenko agreed to do so, but only if Regal agrees to one additional condition: if Edge wins, Regal and Vance Archer leave the company for good! Regal agreed. As soon as Regal dropped the pen from signing the paper, Archer nailed Edge in the side of the head with a big boot. Regal and Archer then run off.
TAG TEAM MATCH | MAIN EVENT: D'Angelo Dinero & Hurricane Helms def. Evan Bourne & Christian (10:22)
Northern Combat's second attempt at a tag team main event in as many weeks was far more successful than the last as the Welterweight Champion, Christian, teamed with Evan Bourne against Light Heavyweight Champ, Hurricane, and D'Angelo Dinero. Christian and Bourne received a standing ovation from the crowd, while Hurricane and Dinero received a mix reaction. The two teams battled back and forth, with Christian and Bourne taking an advantage early, but Dinero and Hurricane beating down Bourne for several minutes before he finally was able to get the hot tag in to the champ. Christian came in and cleared house, actually hitting Helms with the Killswitch but not able to make the pinfall. Finally, Dinero cleared Christian out of the ring and then planted Bourne to the mat with the Dinero Express for a pinfall victory.
Dinero celebrated his victory as the show came to an end, pointing first at an "End of the Line" poster hanging above the ring and then down at Christian outside the ring, signalling that he planned on taking the Welterweight title.
