First off, I know not everyone cares, but I have no friends in real life who collect figures so I have nobody to talk to about this. Here goes.
I started buying figures again back in 2006 and I haven't stopped since. When I saw the Mattel protos I wasn't sure I liked them all that much. I debated back and forth with myself wondering if it was worth buying them, re-building a collection, etc. Now that I own two Mattel figures (HHH and Bourne) I know what they're like. I do like them but find myself disliking them at times too. Now we're about what, 4 days or so to the official release? And we find more and more stuff out every day about the line and see more things randomly pop up. Now to me, this is stressfull. It's going to be a pain in the ass to find all these different things in stores.
Now, part 2. These figures are expensive. Buying a two-pack is pretty much $20. An Elite figure is like $16 too. The basics I have no problem with since they're the same price as RA's are now. Entrance Greats are like $22 for a regular figure but with some accessories and a little music chip/stand. Big whoop. Now to me, buying these figures is like re-building a HUGE collection and pretty much just buying the same exact superstars, but in a semi-different form. It just seems like a waste. I highly anticipated these figures. I talked about them since we saw the protos. Now fast forward to 4 days before the official release, and I have no clue what to do, but I know if I do buy these figures it's gonna run me like $150 on the 1st! I could buy myself a small TV for that! It's crazy...
Another thing is, I feel the Jakks figures take up enough space and I don't have all this room. So I have three options.
1. Buy these figures.
2. Buy them and try them out, and see if I can get into them.
3. Stay away, keep up for display my Jakks collection and quit the figure buying. I haven't felt what it's like to not buy a figure in nearly 4 years now. There'd be no more stress or racing to TRU for a figure, ya know, stuff like that. Already, in not even two weeks, I've wasted numerous trips to stores and wasted a lot of gas searching for this crap. And I don't want to buy these figures and hate them, because I wanna start off the new year on a good note. I haven't had the best year, so I want 2010 to go well.
So yeah, anyone else undecided or anything? I've never been one to make up my mind and stick with a decision, but that's just me so whatever. I understand many people may not give a crap, and if you guys are mad at me for complaining, I'll get rid of this thread.

I understand I was around when they first started releasing the Ruthless Aggression figures... everything before that was just obsolete. Now it's happening all over again. My biggest question is how big are these new ones... mainly the elite and basic line will they be inscale with the old jakks stuff?
also since rsc is the pretty much the only confirm retailer who has the elite in posession is it possible for them to make a better insider video? They really didn't showcase the joints enough for me to understand the hip area [whether I can make em do splits or not]...

I'd say number 2.
That's what I'm doing

I wasn't positive about how I felt about these figures until I saw pictures of Rey Mysterio next to HHH and The Big Show. The addition of actual scale makes this instantly the best line of WWE figures that has ever been produced--EVER. The Elite figures have outstanding softgoods accessories, the women (or at least Beth Phoenix) actually look like women, and
Here's my advice to you: Don't buy them all on Day 1. We already have seen future lineups and know that guys like Batista, HHH, Rey Mysterio, Shawn Michaels, and Kofi Kingston will be released with many different attires throughout the year. If you can't justify buying a ton at once, wait a little bit. These figures should be produced in great quantities, and if you happen to miss Basic 1 Kofi, there's always Survivor Series Kofi coming up.
These figures are already taking WWE to a level of detail and accuracy that Jakks, Hasbro, and LJN never did. If you gave up collecting when the best stuff ever was about the come out, I have a feeling you'd regret it later and be scrambling to pick up many of these early figures.

You arent feeling what everyone else pretty much is already feeling. Mattel does require you to start your collection over. Just like when Hasbro took over for LJN, when Jakks took over for Hasbro....Bca to TTL, TTL to RA. Its the nature of the beast.
The expense issue is real. Mattel's price points are higher. I do fear for lines like Entrance Greats. Mattel might find them shelf warming and stop producing the product. They certainly arent going to cut the price b/c we dont want to buy it.
I am taking Mattel fairly slow. I am picking up figures that I like first and not just gonna order everything and anything.

Mattel is a breath of fresh air in the wrestling figure world. Right now they are delivering the best wrestling toys I have ever seen and owned, and I am going to buy it all. With all these sets and surprises being released in several different places it makes figure hunting fun again. I honestly was a huge fan of jakks and would buy and support their product even when they half assed things because there was no competition for them. After purchasing basic series 1 last week I sold my complete jakks collection on ebay and I don't regret it. I love to display my figures and the mattels look freakin awesome on my shelf. The scales, to the deco detail, to the skin tones, to the likeness of mattels is what differentiates their product from jakks and its def noticeable. Even though it sounds corny, I get really excited to look on the mattel board just to see what other ppl have found and I haven't felt this way in a great while. To me Mattel figures are perfect. I am a completionist and will be buying majority of the mattel product. My suggestion for you is buy who you like and you want. Buy the figures that really catch your eye. Do not buy them just to buy them. But if your looking for perfect figure versions of wrestlers than mattels the way to go.

I read all the replies and would like to say thanks. I never thought I'd end up being undecided like this so close to the release date. Thinking about spending $150 on Friday is a crazy thought tbh. Maybe I will do what was said and only buy the figures I really like. But then again, I buy figures for collecting purposes and to play, so I won't have a big variety of figures to use then. See, it's a lose-lose situation for me. Ugh...

Here is my biggest gripe with the way this is going down. THE ING JERKS WHO BUY A WHOLE CASE AND PUT IT ON EBAY AND DON'T EVEN ING CARE ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE BUYING! THANKS TO ASS HOLES LIKE THAT I HAVE MADE SEVERAL CAR TRIPS AND FOUND NOTHING BUT LEFT OVER FACT TAGS! Come Jan.1st when I am waiting outside my toys r us if I even get the slightest hint that there is some scum bag who lives off ebay is near me I am going to ing rip the figure out of their hands and beat the crap out of them. Get a real ing job and stop screwing me out of the figures. I don't even care about the 1/1000 crap I just want a few from series one. I also wish Mattel was a little more firm about the Street date. Everytime I see someone posting that they found something new I just want to go out and look some more to find nothing. Well that felt good to get out of my system. We should look out for the ebay scum bags and put a stop to their laughable prices and scum bag way of life.

I've decided only to purchase the Elite series. The price tag for them is a downer though.

I'm gonna buy a few from the first couple sets and see how I like them. I don't play with my figures much, just pose them for pics with my fig fed and play around for a couple moves. I'd suggest you do the same. If you like them, keep buying. If not, you tried and it probably wasn't a huge waste because you do enjoy collecting, it would seem.

Honestly, I can say on the 1st, I'm going to my local stores, all in one day, filling up the tank once. I got 155 myself, and whatever I find, I find and I'll enjoy having added to my Jakks collection. These figures are masterpieces. Yet much like you, the gas, the energy, and the time is too much at my age, I'm 22, and I've lived in NJ all my life, lone and dependant on myself for years and years now, never had any friends who collected. Besides, especially with them so high in demand right now, I highly doubt I'll find 150$s worth of them to begin with. Thats my honest opinion. I already own 2 rings and a HHH and Bourne. I'd just like a few more for now. Not going to be AS CRAZY with them, but I'll sure make a purchase or two here or there for my own intrest.

I completely understand where you and many are coming from. Personally, I have bought the complete Basic series 1 and have found a 1/1000 Triple H. I have been calling the hell out of every Toys R Us and Target within a fifty mile radius. It can be said that some of us are a little obsessed over these figures. What makes me annoyed is that my Target has a full case of Elites (which I plan to mainly collect, aside from the few stray figures I like, or LE's or IE's) and they refuse to open them. They don't know about the street date and say that they will remodel the toy department on the 1st and that is why they're held back. When I call them, and give them the UPC, they tell me they're on the floor, when they're really in the back. Oh well, that's my grief, and I know those figures will be put out before the 1st anyway.
I do know that Mattel will cost us so damn much, and it will hurt for sure. I mean, I'm looking at an expensive future and I'm torn between a passion I love and having a bit more money for what really matters, like college, gas, rent, college, and just about everything else.
The thing I hate about figure collecting is that when you buy a figure, you feel all happy and "caught up" that you have a current attire, and then next month, the wrestler doesn't wear those trunks anymore and now you have to chase down another $10 figure. Mutliply this by a 50-70 man roster over the course of many years and you're looking at a the price of a private jet! Haha, not that much, but pretty close to it. It's a lot of money when they are only toys. We should form a support group. I guess it will only get harder and make the delimma more serious once we have more figures and have more money invested into the new Mattel.
All I can say is that I hear ya, and I feel ya.

I understand your predicament, like someone said before, a lot of people have to evaluate whether buying a brand new style of fig is a smart thing to do. I know for sure I won't be doing that but only buy select figs. I just find that I would rather buy other wwe merchandise such as dvds or replica belts than a ton of figs that I rarely play with.
Whatever you choose I hope you are okay with it.

Nowadays, we all have to make wiser purchases. Do what you feel is best.

That's what we're all here for, to vent and support:). Lots of good replies so I'll just echo those comments by saying give them a try first and see how you like them. I've never just collected WWE just for the sake of collectiing, it's always hada purpose..ie ..pic fedding, displaying, trading, or just cause i like the figure. So you gotta set some boundries first. Remeber this is only the first wave, so you dont have to buy everything now. Im trying to downsize my Jakks stuff personally by selling/trading but you may want to hold on to your stuff, but that's another option. That way you have money to spend on WWE mattel. I have a hard time sticking with decisions too so i know how you feel. maybe just get the ones you really want and the ones that are hot right now, and hold off on the rest till later. Like you know HHH, Batista, HBK, Jericho, etc will all be released ad nauseum, so maybe wait and just spend our money on guys you'd like to have like say one of the entrance greats and an evan bourne figure. Much like myself, you're gonna have to give yourself some parameters for buying so you don't go nuts and broke, lol. good luck and happy hunting! See you on the first with the rest of the whackos, lol
