odd that there's a similar topic, lol. Anyway, Im thinking of purchasing one but dont know much about it. Does it work similar to a VCR? Can you record over DVD's. Are there special DVD's you need? Do i need to get through my cable service or can i just buy my own? Thanks for the help

Get the DVR from your cable company or satellite provider. Makes life so much easier. To get shows on dvd, you just need a USB cord and you can plug it into your computer and download the program and use movie maker to burn the program to dvd.
