Rated R and Chris Hammers present: World Wrestling Federation vs. World Championship Wrestling
1997 – One of the most exciting years in professional wrestling. Both the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling were on the cutting edge of entertainment, with both shows providing riskier and more shocking shows every week, where literally anything could happen.
The World Wrestling Federation were struggling to keep up with World Championship Wrestling, who were dominating the ratings war. Bret Hart was the reigning WWF Champion, but his future was in doubt with rumours that he was defecting to their rivals WCW. However, young stars such as Steve Austin, Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Rocky Maivia, as well as the entertaining and risky antics of Degeneration X, means the WWF has the talent to turn things around.
Over in World Championship Wrestling the company was rising quickly, dominating the ratings war. They were lead by the dominant New World Order, a group of the biggest superstars in the WCW at the time who were a strong counter tactic to WWF’s Degeneration X. With young talent like Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho the future looks bright for the company, and things were just about to get a whole lot better.
On November 9th WWF held their Survivor Series pay per view in Montral, Quebec, Canada. During a match between the WWF Champion Bret Hart, who was destined for WCW, and challenger Shawn Michaels, Michaels locked in the Sharpshooter submission hold. Earl Hebner, the match referee, called for the bell to ring under orders from Vince McMahon even though Hart had not submittied. Shawn Michaels was declared the victor by submission and crowned as the new WWF Champion.
The aftermath was felt far and wide. Bret Hart left the World Wrestling Federation destined for their rivals World Championship Wrestling and in anger over Montreal close friends Davey Boy Smith and Jim Neidhart left with him. WWF’s public image was severely damaged, and World Championship Wrestling had never been so far in front in the Monday Night Wars as they were on the morning of November 10th 1997.
Welcome to an era when anything can happen, where anyone can jump ship and where the unexpected should be expected. This is professional wrestling at its finest.
This is war.

I'll be checking this more than WWE 2009-2010.
You have a large WCW roster, let's hopefully see you continue the actual stories going on, with the epic Sting/Hogan feud. Oh, and also, if you just happen to not have enough time for WCW, I'd take over that, I know this isn't a split; I'm your backup post if you need it though.

November 10th 1997
Following the Monday Nitro opening video and the usual pyro display, the New World Order music plays across the PA system right away. The New World Order make their way down to the ring draped in Canadian flags and they laugh as they make their way down to the ring. Once inside, Bischoff gets on the microphone and introduces the redebut of “The real Giant” Kevin Nash. Nash makes his way down to the ring in a wheel chair but once he’s at the bottom of the entrance way, he jumps out of the chair as if it was a miracle. Once inside the ring, Nash laughs and talks about how if Giant wants a piece of him he’ll have to wait for the big battle royal at World War III. Bischoff takes control of the microphone again and talks about how he has a surprise for one Bret Hart. Bischoff says that Bret Hart is invited to join the New World Order. There are a few “Vince screwed Bret” chants at this point and the New World Order begin to laugh as several of their members begin to wave the flag again. Bischoff says that like it or not, Bret Hart will be a member of the greatest group of wrestlers in professional wrestling, the New World Order.
The cameras turn to the back where Mene Gene Okerlund talks about how the New World Order have apparently signed Bret Hart. Mene Gene then hypes his 900- line and talks about how Bret Hart had a caught on camera punch out with “another promoter”
1 - Tag Team Match) Dave Taylor & Steve Regal defeated. Harlem Heat via Pinfall. Monday Nitro kicks off with a big upset as “Lord” Steve Regal and “Squire” Dave Taylor surprised everyone by beating the seven time tag team champions for the one two three. The match started with Booker T and Steve Regal working well together in the ring putting together several fun sequences before Regal used a cheap eye rake followed by a chop block before dragging Booker T to the heel corner allowing Regal and Taylor to gain the advantage in the match. Booker was worked on for several minutes before fighting back and getting the tag to older booker Stevie Ray who cleaned house, knocking both Regal and Taylor down to the canvas several times. Booker T was still hurting however from being worked on the entire match which allowed Taylor and Regal to gain the upper hand on Stevie Ray with a cheap low blow from Steve Regal as Dave Taylor distracted the referee. As Steve Ray was crouched over selling the punch to the ground, Dave Taylor hooked the arms and connected with the Double Arm Suplex which was enough to give Dave Taylor and Steve Regal the victory. Following the bell, Regal and Taylor continued their attack on Stevie Ray until Booker T slid in to the ring with a steel chair clearing the ring. Booker continue to sell a hurt leg while checking on his older brother.
The nitro girls hit the stage for their usual dance. Nothing to talk about, they’re pretty and fun to look at, time could have been given to a promo or something.
2 - Singles Match) Chris Jericho defeated. Disco Inferno via Submission. The fast paced Chris Jericho worked well with Disco Inferno and both men put together a fun yet short match that saw both men get in a bit of offence. The finish eventually arrived with Disco Inferno attempting the Chart Buster only for Chris Jericho to counter it by pushing Inferno in to the ropes. Inferno bounced back but Jericho remained in control of the situation by kicking Disco in the gut and followed it up with a Double Underhook Back Breaker straight in to the lion tamer. Disco didn’t last long and had to tap out making Chris Jericho the victor of the match. Following the bell, Jericho left as Raven, Billy Kidman, Saturn and Sick Boy jump the barricade. Chris Jericho stops at the entrance ramp as if he was going to help Disco Inferno but suddenly turned to the camera and said “Disco’s going to get his ass kicked” and started to laugh. Jericho left the area as Raven and his flock slid in to the ring and attacked Disco Inferno. Inferno began to fight back but only for a few seconds before Saturn stopped him back slamming the WCW Television Championship against his face. Suddenly, Scotty Riggs with an eye patch on ran down to the ring to make the save. Riggs manages to knock Kidman and Sick Boy out of the ring as Raven and Saturn manage to retreat.
3 - Singles Match) Glacier defeated. The Barbarian via Pinfall. This wasn’t a great match by any standards but could be considered passable as a decent match. Barbarian powered over Glacier who’s entrance is real flashy but that’s about all the positives he’ll get. The finish of the match arrived with Barbarian diving off the top rope only for Glacier to hit a spinning kick, catching Barbarian in the jaw. This was enough to give Glacier the three count and he celebrated his victory with a Martial Arts demo. Jimmy Hart and Meng made their way to the ring and Meng interrupted Glacier’s demo and locked in the Tonga Death Grip before kicking Glacier right in the skull.
A video is played hyping up World War III, the end of the 3 ring 60 man battle royal from last year is shown showing The Giant win it, following the video, the three commentators talk about how The Giant is surely the favourite in the match.
Raven, Sick Boy, Kidman and Saturn once again make their way from the barricade and slide in to the ring. Raven gets on the microphone and talks about how he is sorry for what happened to Scotty Riggs’ eye. Raven says that he feels Riggs’ pain. Raven talks about being bullied as a child to which Tony Schaivone makes the comment “I wonder why” Raven says if Scotty Riggs really wants to fight him then it’ll be under his rules. Raven continues by saying that the match will be at World War III and will be no disqualification.
4 - Singles Match) Yuji Nagata (with Sonny Ono) defeated. Alex Wright (with Queen Debra) via Submission. This was one of the better matches of the night so far. The match was very back n forth and could have went either way in the early going. Alex began using dirty tactics to gain the advantage and the finish eventually arrived with Sonny Ono offering Debra some money before giving her a kiss. Debra slapped Sonny and the whole situation distracted Alex Wright allowing Yuji Nagata to hit the Backdrop Suplex while he followed up by locking in the Nagata Lock. Alex Wright was forced to submit and Nagata was crowned the victor of the match.
The New World Order hit’s the titantron again as Eric Bischoff and the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Hollywood Hulk Hogan make their way down to the ring. Once inside, Bischoff shows everyone a poster of Stings new movie that someone snuck in to Hogan’s locker room. Bischoff insults Sting a few times before Hogan is given the microphone and calls out Sting right now. Nothing happens and Hogan laughs before he and Bischoff leave the ringside area and make their way back to the locker room. Suddenly, as Hogan is on the entrance way, Sting descends from the rafters with baseball bat in hand and makes his way towards Hogan. Bischoff tries to stop Sting but Sting swings the bat, Bischoff narrowly ducking in time to dodge having a broken jaw. Bischoff ran up the ramp after giving Hogan enough time to get away.
The cameras turn to the commentator’s table where they talk more about the New World Order apparently signing Bret Hart. It should be noted that Mike Tenay says “Bret Hart is one of the greatest wrestlers in the world and is no quitter” Some might consider it a shot to what happened the night before at WWF Survivor Series.
5 - Singles Match for the WCW Television Championship) Saturn defeated. Chris Benoit via Pinfall to retain the WCW Television Championship. As the challenger to the WCW Television Championship, Chris Benoit made his way down to the ring, he was knocked down by the champion, Saturn on the entrance way. Saturn then quickly rolled Benoit in to the ring and went for the pin fall attempt only to get a one count. The match continued and was a real solid yet still short back in forth match. The finish eventually arrived with Chris Benoit going up to the top rope calling for the Diving Headbutt only for Saturn to knock Benoit’s legs apart causing him to groin the top turnbuckle and fall down to the canvas. Saturn sat on Benoit and used the ropes for leverage to get the three count. Following the bell, Fit Finlay slid in to the ring and dropped Benoit with the Tombstone Piledriver. Finlay and Benoit have had their problems recently and Finlay just said they haven’t been solved.
The Nitro girls are at it again. Can’t really go in to details on what they did but as usual, they were good at it.
The cameras turn to the back where Mene Gene Okerlund is standing beside the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Flair says that tonight he is going to out wrestle, out move and out smart Lex Luger in their match tonight. Flair also goes on a rant against the current WCW United States champion, Curt Hennig. Flair wishes The Giant good luck in his United States Championship match tonight against Hennig but says that win or lose, he wants Giant to leave a piece of Hennig for him.
6 - Singles Match) Eddie Guerrero defeated. Dean Malenko via Pinfall. Definitely the match of the night in terms of quality. Eddie had recently lost the WCW Cruiserweight Championship to Rey Misterio Jr and was clearly more aggressive in this match than usual. Malenko and Guerrero went back n forth for almost ten minutes before the eventual finish of the match arrived with Malenko attempting a frankensteiner only for Guerrero to hold on to the ropes causing Malenko to face plant the canvas. Malenko fell right in place for Guerrero’s finishing move and he dived of the top rope hitting the Frog Splash. Eddie hooked Malenko’s leg and got the three count. Following the bell, Eddie got on the microphone and challenged Rey Misterio Jr to a rematch at World War 3, Eddie said as he was the former champion and never got his rematch, it doesn’t matter if Rey accepts or declines the challenge because it’s going to happen.
The cameras turn to the back where Mene Gene Okerlund is standing by with two men that were victorious in defeating Harlem Heat earlier on tonight, Steve Regal and Dave Taylor. Regal does all the talking in the interview and tells Okerlund that they defeated Harlem Heat, a legendary team here in World Championship Wrestling. Regal then says that there is another team here at WCW that they want to beat and at World War 3, they are going to get that change. Regal says at World War 3, it will be Dave Taylor and himself challenging The Steiner Brothers’ for their WCW World Tag Team Championships.
7 - Singles Match) Randy Savage (with Miss Elizabeth) defeated. Ray Taylor. This wasn’t a great match to be fair. Both men are getting on in years but they did the best they could. During the match, Taylor got in quite a lot of offence over the New World Order member and it even looked like he had the match won after connecting with the spine buster. Savage managed to kick out and fought back before throwing Taylor in to the top turnbuckle. Taylor fell back allowing Savage to go to the top rope and hit the Diving Elbow to get the three count. Following the bell, Savage mocked Taylor and spray painted the New World Order initials on his back.
The cameras turn to the back where Mene Gene Okerlund is standing beside Scotty Riggs. Scotty tells Mene Gene that Raven can make what ever rules he wants for their match at World War 3 because it’s definitely going to go down. Riggs’ then says that he only needs the one good eye to kick that piece of trash’s ass. Suddenly, Scotty is knocked down to the ground by an unknown attacked. The man has long hair and is in grunge like attire similar to Raven’s. The man turns around so the camera and see him and Mike Tenay in shock tells everyone that it’s Van Hammer. Suddenly, Raven laughs from a distance as Van Hammer does the arms out like Raven taunt.
8 - Singles Match) Ric Flair defeated. Lex Luger via Pinfall. Not even the mighty “Nature Boy” Ric Flair could have a great match with Lex Luger, it has to be said. The match was fine and probably even “good” because it was kept short like a lot of the matches have been tonight but Lex seemed a little off tonight. Flair kept to his game plan and managed to out move and out wrestle the bigger Lex Luger but Luger eventually caught Flair and lifted him in the air before slamming him down with the Military Press Slam. Luger kept advantage for the rest of the match before Flair positioned himself in the corner causing Luger to charge at him, apparently going for the Avalanche Splash. Flair side stepped Luger, sending him crashing in to the turnbuckle and Flair then rolled Luger up with the school boy holding on to the trunks for extra leverage. This was enough to give Flair the three count who quickly left the ring and smirked as Luger looked on somewhat shocked.
The Nitro Girls go at it one more time before the big main event. Curt Hennig of the New World Order puts the WCW United States Championship on the line against The Giant!
Main Event - Singles Match for the WCW United States Championship) The Giant defeated Curt Hennig by disqualification, Curt Hennig retains the WCW United States Championship. This was a rather good match and a great main event to close the show. Despite being much smaller than his opponent, Hennig managed to hold his own against The Giant, even if dirty tactics were used to keep him ahead of his challenger. Hennig and Giant went back in forth until the very end where Hennig attempted the Hennig Plex only for Giant to throw him in to the air in a Flap Jack like move. Hennig face planted the canvas and slowly got to his feet where Giant grabbed the champion by the throat and lifted him in to the air for the Choke Slam. Suddenly, Kevin Nash slid in to the ring with the WCW United States Championship and used it against the back of Giant’s head. Giant dropped Hennig who landed on his feet, attacking a know down to one knee Giant with a drop kick to the face. The entire New World Order hit the ring including the World Heavyweight Champion, Hulk Hogan who had apparently lost Sting somewhere backstage. Giant gets beaten down for a minute or so before the lights go out in the arena. When they come back on, Sting is standing in the middle of the ring with his bat in hand and swing it, hitting Syxx in the back. Sting continues his attack, hitting Bagwell, Konnan and Savage with the bat as Hogan once again retreats from the ring. Hogan looks angry at ringside yelling “I’ll get you stinger” as WCW Nitro comes to an end.

WCW Monday Nitro: Monday 10th November 1997...Sorry I didn't make it clear on MSN, the image I posted above is the actual logo for this time period; that logo wasn't enforced until like mid 1999. That was my fault. Nice segment to kick off the show with the New World Order coming out. I notice a lot though, you don't say 'nWo', rather New World Order. Sounds odd I think now. Also, usually there would be a match followed by a big promo, as bizarre as that sounds. Nice way for the nWo to try and tempt Bret Hart into coming to the nWo when he debuts though. I believe they did this another time, even singing the Canadian National Anthem. Liked the storylines remaining relevent, with Kevin Nash's feud with The Giant and the big battle royal at World War 3. Somewhat decent way to get the show started with Dave Taylor and Steven Regal beating Harlem Heat. I wish Booker T and Stevie Ray had picked up the win there, but hopefully they end up going solo and getting pushes of their own in no time. I feel you could use a lot less match description too. That is a lot, and it's even in size=1 font (I know you'll try to get me about my disliking for it, but that isn't a problem with match description like this, haha). Chris Jericho beating Disco Inferno is fine, Jericho wasn't really much of anything here, other than bland babyface blue-chipper. Wonder if you'll have him go angry and turn heel with a losing streak like what happened in real life. The Flock attacking was neat, Scotty Riggs making the save was decent, but he never really made it as a credible threat. Let's get Chris Benoit involved like in real life, me thinks. Glacier beating The Barbarian is okay I suppose; was never a Glacier fan, but I guess it filled up some time. But Meng attacking Glacier was great. Meng could have been a solid singles champion, but he was always held back it seems. Raven would have most likely cut a promo from his seat in the front row rather than gotten into the ring; Raven was not under contract apparently at the time (kayfabe) so I bet security would get him. Yuji Nagata was getting a push here, so him beating Alex Wright is no trouble at all, I was never really a Wright fan personally. Eric Bischoff coming back out is nice, him and Hollywood Hogan calling out Sting once again. Saturn beating Chris Benoit is fine, solid WCW World Television Championship defense there. Very enjoyable most likely. Fit Finley attacking Benoit is good, but this match was slightly pay-per-view worthy. Saturn should usually beat undercard stars on television shows, then face a man of his quality on pay-per-view, or on Nitro with hype. Great match with Dean Malenko and Eddy Guerrero. Shame that WCW doesn't care about the cruiserweights here. Great match there, and Eddy getting another shot at the World War 3 against Rey Mysterio Jr is nice. Also, just a note; Nitro always had promos in the arena and rarely made segments occur in the backstage area. Nice segment with Scotty Riggs though. Haha, Hammer jumping him is okay. Randy Savage beating Ray Traylor is okay I guess. Hopefully you find some use for Traylor, as he is opposing nWo now. Sort of wish that Ric Flair and Lex Luger had occured earlier on in the show as first-hour main event, but good win for Ric Flair against Lex Luger...but Luger was a face as was Flair? Not sure what's going on there. Also, what has happened to Flair's feud with WCW US Heavyweight Champion, Curt Hennig? That dissappeared? I remember they were meant to feud into a steel cage match at Starrcade 1997 but Flair got injured and Diamond Dallas Page replaced him. Wish there would have been involvement for Flair in the main event, with the WCW US Heavyweight Championship being on the line between The Giant and Curt Hennig. Hollywood Hogan and Sting having an occurence is fine...but again, Flair needed some involvement. Good show overall. Hopefully you do Saturday Night in addition to this...even if it's just list results. Bill Goldberg's streak needs to be capitalized on just for that. Good start.

WCWNitro: Nice way to kick of the show with the nWo. I lol'd at Nash jumping out of the chair as if it was a miracle. If Bret joined the nWo it'd be ace. Nice to see the englishmen go over Booker and Ray in a nice opener. I lol'ed at your comments towards the nitro girls. Glad Jericho defeated Inferno. A Sick post match beatdown on Inferno. Classic Jericho behaviour there. 3rd Match was meh for me as I'm not familair with either competitor. I can't wait for the World War 3 Battle Royal, its going to kick ass. NO DQ at WW3 sounds nice, I liked Raven's promo, very Ravenish. Once again I am not familiar with the wrestlers in match 4, seemed decent. I liked Stings attempted assault. Nice timing. Bischoff always seems to escape. I have a feeling that Hart may turn on the nWo. Nice to see Saturn beat Beniot in a way that doesn't make Chris look weak. Finlay used a tombstone? awesome. The feud sounds cool and I'd like tos ee it develope. I once again lol'd at your Nitro Girl Comments. Flair promo was cool, Hennig vs Flair would rock. Glad Eddie went over Malenko, his match against Rey should be good they always put on an entertaining match. Nice to see Savage as the victor, decent match. Van Hammer? never heard of him, sounds interesting. Glad Ric defeated Luger after Ric cut his promo or else Falir would just look plain stupid. US Title Match up next! Shame the match ended in DQ but it was the best booking decision to keep the Gaint strong and the title on Hennig. I like the way Sting got most of the nWo and not Hoagn, clever move to continue their feud.
I actually really enjoyed this show, will be read/replying to the next one. Good luck, don't let this die.

I know the plans for this, at least some of WCW's and it's going to be awesome. Will leave a better reply when the next show is up.
