DISCLAIMER: This is the first company on the boards (to my knowledge) where winners are decided at random. So, if your favorites don't win, don't complain to me. It adds more excitement for me, and, hopefully, you as well. Check out the WWA-Northern Combat info thread for more information.
WWA's Northern Combat on Fox Sports North & WrestlingFigs.com
Episode #2 - Jan. 14, 2010
Northern Combat on FSN opens to the sounds of "Invicible" by Adelita's Way [a.k.a the WWE Superstars theme]. Joey Styles, Brent Musberger, and Jerry "The King" Lawler welcome everyone to the show, running down some of the events of last week before sending it to Michael Buffer for the first introductions of the night.
TAG TEAM MATCH: Brock Lesnar & Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes & Randy Orton
The Pound-for-Pound Heavyweight Champion of the World, Brock Lesnar, made his way to the ring carrying both belts to kick off the show and the crowd was on their feet screaming. As he entered the ring, Joey Styles announced that this would be his television debut in Northern Combat! His partner, Kofi Kingston, made his way to the ring next and Joey Styles explained that this match came about thanks to two seperate run-ins that Orton had with Kingston and Lance Storm and then later Brock Lesnar on last week's episode of WWA-NC on FSN. As Orton and Rhodes made their way to the ring, the crowd filled the arena with boos. When they climbed in the ring, Lesnar and Kingston refused to stand down, and Lesnar pushed his own partner out of the way to get face-to-face with "The Viper." The match itself was a rather quick one, with Orton seemingly unwilling to get into the ring whenever Lesnar entered the match. This led to Rhodes taking much of a beating from the champ, but Orton could not save himself completely as Kofi eventually took it to him, earning a measure of revenge for Orton's assault on him last week. With Kingston clearing Orton from the ring, the champ saw his opportunity and struck with stiff kick before locking Rhodes in a rear naked choke, where he almost immediately tapped out, for a submission victory.
Winners via submission: Brock Lesnar & Kofi Kingston (6:45)
After the match, Brock Lesnar grabbed a microphone. He said that everyone's been asking him who he wants to fight at Wrestlympics, but he wants to say once and for all, that he does not care. "I will beat Edge. I will beat Jack Swagger. It does not matter. I promise you that." Lesnar dropped his mic to the ground and started to the back as the show went to break.

As we returned to the ring, WWA-NC's newest athletes, Jay Roclass and Maryse Ouellet made their way to the commentary booth as Maryse joined Joey, Brent, and King for commentary as they scouted the Welterweight champion.
WELTERWEIGHT MATCH: Christian vs. The Miz
The mixed reaction for Maryse and Roclass became full-on negativity as the so-called "Awesome" Miz made his way to the ring, looking to earn himself some respect in the Welterweight division. He was followed by the Welterweight champ, Christian, who got the crowd on his feet with the opening notes of his theme. The Miz earned the first shot of the match, attacking "Captain Charisma" from behind, but the champ quickly turned things around and took control for several minutes. Miz finally broke his momentum with an eye rake, followed by a stiff DDT. Miz controlled the offense for several minutes, even setting up the champ for the Skull Crushing Finale, but Christian broke out of it and reversed, hitting the Miz with the Killswitch for a surprise pinfall victory.
Winner via pinfall: Christian (9:55)
Before the champ could celebrate, Jay Roclass attacked him from behind, smashing him head-first into the top turnbuckle before planting him to the mat with his now-patented stiff STO. Maryse climbed in and hugged him, flicking her hair back as she smiled at the destruction he left in the ring before we went to a commercial.

The Light Heavyweight champion, The Hurricane, stood in the ring as we returned, and he had a list of demands. "I don't ask for a lot around here, as the Light Heavyweight Champion. A little respect, but I'm willing to earn it. Except I don't even get a chance to do that, so I'm forced to come out here, hijack Commissioner Malenko's plans, and make an open challenge to ANYONE who wants to fight me." To everyone's surprise, this challenge brought out the "Italian Stallion," Santino Marella, and he was not alone. With him was "the Glamazon," Beth Phoenix! Marella climbed in the ring and announced that, thanks to Christian's advice, he had hired a new personal trainer (Beth), who had helped him to lose a whopping three pounds, putting him in the light heavyweight division. As Hurricane laughed, Marella attacked, and the match was underway!
LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT MATCH: Hurricane Helms vs. Santino Marella w/Beth Phoenix
The crowd was firmly behind the lovable loser, Santino, appreciating his "effort to come back in better shape." Marella actually was surprisingly dominant against his smaller opponent, throwing Hurricane around with several punishing power attacks. Marella picked up a victory in his surprising return, finally hitting him with a rolling cutter for the pinfall. As Marella celebrated with his new personal trainer, Joey Styles made an interesting comment: for the first time in WWA, a challenger has a pinfall victory over the champion, and Santino Marella may have jumped himself into the upper echelon of Light Heavyweight contenders.
Winner via pinfall: Santino Marella (5:46)

Backstage, Commissioner Malenko and his new lieutenant, Matt Striker, are talking. The newest masked athlete in Northern Combat, Real Man's Man, entered the room, and Striker suggested he be added to the main event. Malenko shot down the idea immediately, saying the "new" wrestler would have to prove himself worthy of a title shot. Striker and the Man's Man walked off to discuss how to prove this. Paul Burchill walked up and Malenko offered him a chance at gold: with Kingston and Lesnar's victory, they earned a tag team title shot, but Lesnar isn't interested. So, Malenko would like to see Burchill as Kingston's partner. Burchill says he likes Kofi's style and would gladly join the "controlled frenzy" in the Tag Team Title Tournament, this Sunday at Numbers Game!
TAG TEAM MATCH: C.M. Punk & Rob Van Dam vs. John Morrison & Matt Hardy
John Morrison and Matt Hardy made their way to the ring together first, receiving a decent pop, but the crowd was clearly in anticipation of seeing their opponents in this match, becuase as soon as "One of a Kind" blasted over the speakers, every person in the crowd was on their feet. Before the match could begin, whilst the tag teams were shaking hands in the ring, Jericho and Big Show made their way out on the stage to scout their possible opponents. Their presence did not prove too distracting as the two teams put on a great show featuring several great spots. High spots proved to be the downfall though, as John Morrison appeared to have the match won with the Star Ship Pain coming up against C.M. Punk, but he moved at the last minute and Morrison crashed to the mat. This allowed Punk to set up Morrison for the Go 2 Sleep, and he nailed him with the kick as his partner kept Matt Hardy from breaking it up by nailing him with the Van Daminator! Punk then left the ring to hold off Hardy while RVD climbed to the top rope and nailed Morrison with the Five-Star Frog Splash for a pinfall victory!
Winners via pinfall: C.M. Punk & Rob Van Dam (10:41)
Van Dam and Punk celebrated their victory while taunting Jericho and Big Show as the show faded to break.

RVD and C.M. Punk stood at ringside, joining the commentary booth as they scouted their future opponents in what would be an interesting preview of Numbers Game. Jericho and Big Show stood in the ring, and Jericho yelled at Punk and RVD while their opponents made their way to the ring in a quickened entrance format in which the remaining five teams walked down to the WWA-NC on FSN theme.
TAG TEAM BATTLE ROYAL: A.J. Styles & Evan Bourne vs. Chavo Guerrero & Colin Delaney vs. The Hart Dynasty vs. Jeri-Show vs. The Playmakers vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team
The match pitted teams against each other in an over-the-top battle royal, though both members of a team would have to be thrown over for them to officially be eliminated. The match went relatively quickly for the first few eliminations as there were just so many men involved, but quickly slowed as the match got to the final competitors. The first eight eliminations were as follows: (1) Chris Jericho by M.V.P., (2) Tyson Kidd by John Cena, (3) A.J. Styles by Cena, (4) Chavo Guerrero by Big Show, (5) Cena by Evan Bourne, (6) David Hart Smith by MVP, (7) Bourne by Shelton Benjamin, (8) Charlie Haas by MVP. The final four were the Big Show, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and - shockingly - Colin Delaney. MVP tried to rally the troops for an elimination of Big Show, but as they tried to heave the behemoth over the top rope, it was MVP who found his way over the top rope when Shelton Benjamin used his momentum of trying to push Show to send him to the outside. As Benjamin did so, Big Show grabbed Delaney and gave him a chokeslam over the top rope onto the ring apron, causing him to bounce off the skirt and crash to the outside. The match did not last much longer as Show caught Benjamin when he tried a cross-body block and lazily tossed him over his shoulders and out of the ring, showing his dominance and winning the match for Jeri-Show.
Winners: The Big Show & Chris Jericho (12:32)
Jericho returned to the ring to celebrate with his partner, and they had a staredown with C.M. Punk and Rob Van Dam as the show faded to a commercial break.

All of the teams had returned to the ringside area after the break, and it was time to reveal the official tournament brackets for WWA-NC's Numbers Game, this week on pay-per-view. Commissioner Malenko made his way to the ring holding the official document, while Lt. Commissioner Striker trailed behind him. Malenko grabbed a microphone and announced he would get right down to business, naming the opening round matches immediately:
- The Hart Dynasty vs. The Playmakers
- Chavo Guerrero & Colin Delaney vs. Jeri-Show
- Kofi Kingston & Paul Burchill vs. C.M. Punk & Rob Van Dam
- A.J. Styles & Evan Bourne vs. World's Greatest Tag Team
On the outside, friends became rivals and pre-existing rivalries heated up as the crowd of wrestlers murmured. Malenko sent them to the back so that the ring could be set up for our main event - after the break.

Joey Styles, Brent Musberger, and Jerry "the King" Lawler ran down the card for Numbers Game oncemore for those fans who missed our last segment, and then announced that two championship matches had been added to the card! Following actions earlier in the evening, Hurricane Helms will defend the Light Heavyweight Championship against Santino Marella, and Christian will defend the Welterweight Championship against Jay Roclass!
MAIN EVENT | HEAVYWEIGHT MATCH: Edge vs. Jack Swagger
The night's main event proved to be a match for the ages as Edge and Jack Swagger battled for the first time since WWA 1. Jack Swagger made his way to the ring, receiving a big pop, followed by Edge who got an equally excited reaction. Much like their previous encounter, Edge looked strong early, but slowly, the former World Champion whittled down his momentum, leading to a back-and-forth brawl for several minutes. The WWA fans did not know who to root for, with chants going back and forth of "Let's go Edge" and "Let's go Swagger." After Edge planted Swagger to the mat with a spear, both men appeared to be down for the count, but Edge got to his feet, and not accepting a countout victory, tried to lock Swagger in the Edgecator. This plan backfired as Swagger kicked Edge into the corner and then rolled to his feet. As Edge stumbled back, Swagger quickly grabbed him and planted him to the mat with the Swagger Bomb! Jack then hooked the leg for a one... two... three count! Swagger had earned his title shot against Lesnar.
Winner via pinfall: Jack Swagger (13:02)
The new No. 1 Contender climbed to the top rope and looked up at the entranceway, as Lesnar walked out on the stage and held the Pound-for-Pound World title belt in the air, staring down his next opponent as the show faded to a close.
