I don't get the whole "Wal-Mart is evil" crap. Yeah I did watch that documentary that came out a few years ago and I don't care. Wal-Mart has everything I need and much cheaper. I'd rather spend $1.99 on a gallon of milk there than spending $3.99 for the same gallon of milk at some "mom and pop" store. And they wonder why they go out of business???

I'd rather spend $1.99 on a gallon of milk there than spending $3.99 for the same gallon of milk at some "mom and pop" store. And they wonder why they go out of business??? Well, thanks to the fact that the suppliers Wal-Mart purchases their goods from, are strong-armed into giving them the lowest base price possible or they'll cut business ties with them...this forces said companies to outsource jobs, shipping them off to foreign countries, or just downsize their plants and put people out of work. On top of that, most of the goods/products they buy have only the price and not quality in mind- thus the ridiculous amount of recalls Wal-Mart has per month up on their gigantic product bulletin board(if you see those wherever they put them up in the store, that is). Also, the employees are terribly underpaid- only make minimum wage, and are almost never given full-time status or any benefits. They don't get a health insurance package. They don't get time and a half for overtime. They get treated like cogs in a machine, replacable peons. Also, most towns they move into cripple all the competition- putting smaller privately owned business into bankruptcy within months...Mom and pop stores that serviced the community for decades are driven into the ground, and people's loyalties usually only lie with the dollar sign. It's statistically proven, also- that most of the time Wal-Mart doesn't give you the lowest price on everything, they just lure you into their locations with a few select 'high demand-low cost!' pieces of junk and then dazzle you with the rest of their massively stocked store and get you to buy things you never needed in the first place. THE DEVIL.

THE DEVIL. I see what you mean and I still don't care. If the workers don't like the job. Quit. Simple as that. Don't give me the ol "they need their jobs for this and that". Then if that's the case they should be grateful for what they have. And again with the mom and pop stores. They charge 300% more on their items. If I can get milk and other stuff like that cheaper at Wal-Mart. You damn better believe I'm going to. As for the recalled stuff. I don't buy many appliances and whatnot from Wal-Mart. But the few items I have work just fine. Loyalties should lie with the dollar sign. It's a tough economy out there, we all know that. But if i can save a few bucks I'm going to do it. I don't see these mom and pop stores doing anything to benefit me. You tell me. Are you willing to pay more for the same item just because who owns the store? If so. Good for you. There are alot of jobs out there who treat their employees like crap. I'm not saying it's good. It does suck. But I'll keep on saying it. If in the long run it saves ME money. Then em. McDonald's always is hiring.

Well, I see how you, in the immediate sense- with the consumer's concern of wanting the lowest price...but seriously- a primary reason we're in the boat we're in is because of corporate giants like Wal-Mart sending a ton of jobs elsewhere.
I don't think smaller stores ramp up their prices by choice, they just don't hold the power and influence of a large entity like Wal-Mart.

That's how their store is designed man. There was special on Walmart on one of the news channels a while back. Everything you buy is sent via computer to their head quarters where they keep track of it. The items most often purchased on average (like milk) are placed in certain areas. Using milk as the example - most people often by it every time they go grocery shopping, so they place it in the very back of the store, so even if you do have a list, you have to pass by thousands of other items you may see, and buy as well. Exactly why when I need milk and only milk, I dont goto Walmart. They put that stuff in the back of the store. I dont want to travel through all that and wait in a long line to get a few items.

tbh, being a teen, I rarely go into a store with the intention of buying anything unless it's food, but even then it's whatever looks good. Because of this, I can't come out with more than I planned. Because I never have a plan going in.

I'm buying my stuff wherever I can get it for the best price.
