It's weird, just last night I nearly made a topic about him here. The AVClub posted the link to this article today though and it's a great read: www.esquire.com/features/roger-ebert-0310I've always been a big fan of the guy and I doubt there will ever be a critic who's opinion I value as much as his.

Great article. I had no idea how much cancer has destroyed his face. I may have to pick up a hard copy of this.

Let me just say this story makes me proud to write screen plays (though I haven't had a big break, and it's not my profession yet) Here's a man who can't say I love you to his wife anymore, can't eat or drink, doesn't get to experience the rich taste of chocolate, but he's a-ok because he still has his movies. Cinematography is such an amazing thing, because as it proves here it can make you forget all about lifes problems for just a few hours and get lost in another world. It makes me happy that a man whose life has revolved around movies still has them to enjoy and escape in. God bless you Roger Ebert, it will be a truly sad day when he passes.

Roger Ebert gets 'voice' grandkids can recognize
CHICAGO — Film critic Roger Ebert says computer programmers have captured his voice from movie commentary tracks so he can type what he wants to say and listeners hear a voice that sounds like him.
Ebert lost his ability to speak after surgery for cancer. He writes in Sunday's Chicago Sun-Times that a Scottish company has helped him regain a voice his grandchildren can recognize.
Ebert recorded commentaries for DVD movies before he lost his voice. A Scottish company called CereProc (SAYR'-uh-prok) blended digital recordings of Ebert speaking to make his text-to-audio voice.
Ebert writes that the voice will be heard predicting Oscar winners on a segment of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" airing Tuesday.
He says he may be able to use the voice for radio and Webcasts.

Feel so bad for Roger. Their really needs to be a movie made about the Siskel & Ebert story. It's just so sad what has happened to the two greatest film critics of all time.

I have a lot of respect for Ebert as well as Siskel. I live in Chicago as well and have seen them around, well when Siskel was alive and Ebert could be seen. It's heartbreaking to see this.
Ebert reminds me of Bobby Heenan with the way he looks. And both men were loud mouths who loved to give their opinion and would out shout whoever they were with. Sad to see them both the same way.
