I have a question for any Star Trek fans out there,
Do any of you read the non-cannon Star Trek novels? There are Star Trek novels that take place either before, in-between or after the television series or movies.
Most recently, a trilogy of novels called Destiny were released. The main premise of the Destiny novels is the Borg attempting to anhilate the United Federation of Planets. Several characters are killed of, including a MAJOR, MAJOR, MAJOR character.
For anyone that's read any of the novels, what are your opinions? Do you feel they should be cannon? Do you like them? Hate them?
For those who haven't read any of the novels and want to know some spoilers, feel free to PM me.

never read any! but ive heard some are superb, the one u mentioned sounds great. who dies? lol There are several different novels that span from several different time periods from all the series/movies. The more popular ones are: New Frontier - A series created by author Peter David. New Frontier follows the crew of the USS Excalibur, shortly after the events of First Contact. The series is made up of entirely newly created characters, though some familar faces are apart of the crew (Commander Elizabeth Shelby, Dr. Selar, Robin Lefler) Titan - The Titan series takes place after the events of Nemesis and follows Captain William Riker and the rest of the crew of the USS Titan. This series also features heavily made up character, however, there are a lot more familar faces (Deanna Troi, Alyssa Ogawa, Commander Tuvok, Sariel Rager, Melora Pelzar). The USS Titan is exploring the Beta Quadrant and takes pride in being the most diverse crew in the fleet. TNG Relaunch - The Next Generation "relaunch" novels take place after the events of Nemesis. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and a new crew mainly deal with the Borg, who eventually become huge in 'Trek lit. Destiny - Destiny is a triology of novels that highlight the Borg Invasion of the United Federation of Planets. These Borg are focusing on anhilating, not assimilating, however. This is a cross over novel featuring the Enterprise-E, Titan, The Aventine (whose captain is Ezri Dax), and Captain Erika Herandez (featured in ENT). It also gives a back story as to how the Borg were created... DS9 Relaunch - Possibly the most popular of the "relaunch" novels, these take place after the series finale "What you leave behind". Jake and Kasidy try to deal with Benjamin Sisko's departure (Kasidy is also pregant with what the Bajoran people believe to be the "avatar"), Bajor attempts to enter the Federation, a major conflic in Trill occurs, a major DS9 character dies, and a major DS9 character returns. We also see how life is like for Odo with the Founders. We're also introduced to several new characters. Oh, and we get to see lots of Ro Lauren! Voyager relaunch - The first two books were dreadful but the last two are mindblowing. Captain Janeway is promoted to Admiral (other characters are promoted as well), Chakotay takes command of Voyager. I can't say too much without spoiling some major stuff. Those are just a few examples of what's out there in Trek lit.

Never really been a Star Trek fan. Though I truly loved the new one they did with Chris Pine.
