I have a very open mind towards music, I like Rock, Rap, Hip-hop, Metal, Trance, Techno and last but not least Country. I admit alot of it is depressing kind of stuff, but then theres the fast up beat dance portion too it.
I dont want everyone to start fighting on hating on people for liking different kinds of music, Id just like your honest opinion about country music.

I hate most country to be honest. My boss is related to and basically helped make Easton Corbin, but god, it's terrible music. Popular country music is for the most part just terribly written songs made to appeal to rednecks.
But alt country stuff like Austin Lucas, Sleepercar, Neko Case, Avett Brothers, etc is fantastic.

When its done right and the songwriting is top notch, its absolutely glorious. Townes Van Zandt, Hank Sr., George Jones, Johnny Cash, Steve Earle, Waylon Jennings, and Gram Parsons are all amazing. But, sadly, its more often than not done wrong. Its usually all- ing-Amerikan, beer, tractors, and losing your wife. I never liked Reba, I sure as hell never liked Miss "Dance Country Crossover" Shania Twain, and I can find very little appeal into most of what they play nowadays. "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk?" "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy?" Nope, I don't need BS party country. Keith Urban isn't terrible though. Alt-country crossover artists should be getting the radio slots over Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift. Lord knows they're way more studied and talented than the pop-country bastards.

new age country i gotta say is pretty intellectually- disabled. it's based on the same crapty commercialized and corporate business as mainstream pop. it's all, for the most part, terrible.
however, old country is fantastic...my mother used to always play classic country. bob dylan says it best:
“Now I love country music, but I say ‘What happened to it?'
"You hear a song like this and it's obvious it's about real people, and real emotions, and real problems, that's all, that's the country music we learned to love. Nowadays they want to sweep all the problems under the rug and pretend they don't exist. Well guess what folks – they do exist! And if you try and sweep 'em under the rug, they're just gonna pop up somewhere else. So we might as well all just face it and listen to the old style country music, the real country music. You know, about drinking and sleeping around. That's my kind of country music, and I hope yours. But I digress."

I never have really cared for country music, Some artists have good songs here and there but overall i highly dislike the genre.

What I don't understand is how people hate country but love rap?
It's essentially the same thing, just Country is more for people that live in the country and rap is more for people who live in the city. Even though rap is pretty much dead now, songs about all your gold and your stupid dance is not good music to me. I am not against Country as there are a few songs I like but I would never go to a country concert or buy a CD.

I think country is one of the best genres of music. It allows the singers to tell a story with words and truth.

Country Music in my opinion is a lost art.
A lot of good Country comes from a while back, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and John Denver stick out as a few of the best. Modern country is alright, Shania Twain and Taylor Swift are definitely my favorite modern country artists. Taylor's older stuff from her first album is pretty good, but her new album, although it's good, is more pop IMO.

Most of the good country out there isn't being played on the radio. I think the music started to decline in the 80's. There's only a handful of popular artists that I like, George Strait for example. The other stuff is all watered town pop, Taylor Swift, Big and Rich, Toby Keith, all of them are dreck. What I listen to. Ernest Tubb: My all time favorite country musician, with his band the Texas Troubadours he pretty much created the "honky tonk" sound. David Allan Coe: Most people don't take the guy seriously, I think a lot of it is because for some reason everyone thinks he's the one behind the Johnny Rebel songs which is completely bogus. His album Long Haired Redneck is one of the best country albums ever made IMO. Hank Williams Sr, Jr, III. I listen to Jr less and less, but he definitely had some great stuff early in his career. SR is timeless. III is a great artist and a really genuine guy, I've had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions. Steve Earle: Awesome song writer, really talented guy Justin Townes Earle: Midnight at the Movies isn't you're average country album, but it's definitely worth checking out. The Lucky Stars: Really fun western swing. Wayne Hancock: Has an authentic "old time" sound. Those Poor Bastards: Gothic country. James Hand: Highly recommended, check out any of his albums, his latest Shadow on the Ground is great. There's one band that has combined country with a weird industrial/rock with their new album Agridustrial, they're called Th' Legendary Shackshakers. They're ing awesome. There's a lot more, but I'll quit rambling.

Not yet, each time they've played here I wasn't able to attend, but I have seen Wilkes other band the Dirt Daubers play a few weeks back, not nearly as intense as LSS but still pretty good.

I couldn't agree more. I don't mind country if it makes sense. I don't want to listen to someone sing about riding a bull, punching their girlfriend and drinking beer.

I totally agree with this. Hank Sr. makes some really great music. I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry is to this day one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. I had a very bad perception of Country music until I started listening to older artists. While it'll never be my favorite genre, I've come to appreciate that some really good music can and has come from it. What I don't understand is how people hate country but love rap? You just have to look beyond BET and the radio because you won't find it there.

I honestly think Johnny Cash is overrated, especially compared to Hank Williams.

I can honestly say I hate country. It's like the backstreet boys but old men playing acoustic instruments.

I LOVE Th' Legendary Shack Shakers! Have you had the privilege to see them live? The Col. "entertained" all night, and he was sober!! So I've gave Agridustrial a few more listens today at the gym, man I think that might be one of their best albums...You've gotta pick it up. The song Greasy Creek is becoming one of my favorites on the album.
