It's still disapointing to see Punk's night ended so early. Obviously in the long run it hasn't hurt him or his momentum but watching the event there is clearly something special happening as he eliminates and preaches and start getting HUGE face pops for it. As it was, it was memorable but it could have been a big career defining moment for him had they allowed it to go even longer.

I thought he was going to continue to eliminate the wrestlers that kept coming into the ring, but that got cut short by Triple H.

I marked out so hard for that. I loved that he did it at the Elimination Chamber, too. We need a 20-man mini Royal Rumble on SD! just so he can do it again, for longer.

That happened because of one of two things. Either: 1. CM Punk fails at garnering heel heat, even when doing heel-like actions. or 2. Fans seriously ruin everything by cheering the heels and booing the faces. I'm thinking it's number 2. But my God there's no point doing anything like that if fans are gonna cheer. |

I think he may even do it in his match against Rey Mysterio, when he is in control. He can just talk trash. I would mark out if this happens.

By all means enjoy yourself, but I thought the idea was to get behind the faces and boo when the heels are babbling on the mic throughout a match. There may as well not be any faces or heels if they aren't gonna get the reaction they're looking for. If you get me... |

Well I've never been a fan of traditional heels vs. faces. I think too often Russo goes overboard in TNA with shades of gray, but I think some ambiguity is needed. Plus it's not a guarantee that Punk would have gotten cheered in, say, Florida the way he did in Atlanta that night.
And for the record, I'm not saying Punk should have continued to throw out each guy that entered and then talk on the mic, but he should have racked up some more elimination and basically last much longer than he did.

WWE is marketing CM Punk as a heel to their primary audience, and IT IS WORKING. CM Punk isn't loved by many outside of WF/the IWC/fans our age. Punk is hilarious and has an amazing gimmick. I have no reason to boo someone that's cracking me up so much and is such a damn fine wrestler. Also- CM Punk is a cult leader in his gimmick. People are supposed to be brainwashed and start believing him. That's the goal of most cult leaders. |
