The Money in the Bank Ladder match has been a part of WrestleMania since WrestleMania 21, which means there have been 5 matches so far, with another one set to take place on Sunday. But which Money in the Bank is your favorite? And do you think the 10-man Money in the Bank this Sunday will surpass all 5 that have already happened?
Here are the matches:
WrestleMania 21 - Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Edge vs. Christian vs. Kane
This was the first ever Money in the Bank, and it is probably my absolute favorite. At the time, I don't believe there could have been a better selection of participants. This match contained some great moments (Shelton Benjamin responsible for many of them), including a T-Bone Suplex off the ladder, a Diving Headbutt from the ladder, a big fall for Christian onto his problem solver, lots of superstars leaping from the top rope to the outside, and a bit of brawling on the entrance way as well. Lots of appearances of Wiley Coyote camera, as Lawler calls it. Edge escaped as the winner.
WrestleMania 22 - Shelton Benjamin vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Finlay vs. Lashley vs. Matt Hardy vs. Ric Flair
This match had a bit of variety, with a powerhouse in Lashley, a brawler in Finlay and also a 57 year old Ric Flair all involved. Shelton Benjamin stole the show once again, with a brilliant run up the ladder to dive to the outside. Other moments included a Leg drop, Frog Splash and Twist of Fate off the ladder. Rob Van Dam got the win after a spider-man like ladder-hopping Benjamin was kicked off his ladder to the outside.
WrestleMania 23 - Booker T vs. Edge vs. Randy Orton vs. Finlay vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. CM Punk
My least favorite one for sure. This was the first 8-man contest, and it featured Hornswoggle and a step ladder... No there were some good moments too; Jeff Hardy crashing through Edge on a ladder balanced across the edge of the ring and the barricade, an RKO off the ladder etc etc. Mr. Kennedy won, but an injury cost him his shot at a World title, and Edge was the man to capitalize.
WrestleMania 24 - John Morrison vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Carlito vs. MVP vs. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho vs. Mr. Kennedy
This one more than made up for the previous year's match. Benjamin yet again put in a show-stealing performance, but crashed through a ladder placed on the outside in a similar fashion to Jeff Hardy the year before... only this time, there was no one to break his fall. Morrison performed an excellent back flip off the top rope, with ladder in hand, Matt Hardy made a run-in to Twist of Fate MVP off the ladder, and Carlito hit a Backstabber from the Ladder too. Punk won after Jericho got his leg hooked in the ladder.
WrestleMania 25 - Kofi Kingston vs. Mark Henry vs. Christian vs. Kane vs. Finlay vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. CM Punk vs. MVP
Another slightly underwhelming Money in the Bank in my opinion. Mark Henry didn't really belong in this match at all. Benjamin did his now inevitable and annual ladder dive, Kingston scaled a near vertical ladder held up by Henry, and there was more spider man like maneuvering from Christian, who managed to break his fall, while hanging on to a falling ladder, by placing a foot on the ring ropes and pushing himself back under the briefcase. Cool. Punk did the Money in the Bank double, after being in a similar situation as Jericho the previous year.
So, there is a (rather rubbish) breakdown of the 5 Money in the Bank Ladder matches. Pick your favorite. Do it now!
