I'm just getting back into comics after like a 15 year hiatus. What are all the x-men titles and what is the key difference. Feel free to include other titles that may coincide with it like perhaps x-factor?
Thanks for the help...

I'm just getting back into comics after like a 15 year hiatus. What are all the x-men titles and what is the key difference. Feel free to include other titles that may coincide with it like perhaps x-factor? Thanks for the help... Basically, your X-Men titles are focusing on the fallout from Utopia. X-Men Legacy is mainly following Rogue and her trials of trying to control her powers now. She has a pretty good command of them. Magneto is with The X-Men. Cyclops is the leader, more like a revolutionary. Gambit is feeling the inner returns of Death, especially when he gets angry or any other major emotion. He is also depressed that Rogue seems more interested in her new powers than finally being able to be with Gambit. My favorite X title right now is X-Men Forever. Forever does not take place or have anything to do with the other X Titles. It is written by Chris Claremont, the man who started X-Men and soon left. It picks right up right where he left off in his book and has already had major plot twists. Wolverine is dead. Kitty Pryde has a claw now. Sabretooth is helping the X-Men find Wolverine's killer, which turned out to be STORM. Storm betrayed the X-Men or did she? There is confusion as there is an adult Storm, who killed Wolverine and a young Lil Oruro. So they dont know who is the real Storm. Jean Grey has admitted her affair with Wolverine, which has caused the breakup of her and Cyclops. Beast confesses feelings for Jean. Cyclops family is in seclusion. And finally Professor X has been hiding a deadly secret that the X-Men and all mutants have genetic flaw in their code, which causes them to die young.

Added onto CM Showstopper's explanation...
Uncanny X-Men is the primary book right now. It features Cyclops as the leader of the X-Men, Emma Frost as his girlfriend and number two in command, Wolverine, Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Professor X, Magneto, etc.
X-Men Legacy features Rogue being a mentor for younger students and newer X-Men.
X-Factor is located in New York City right now and features Jamie Madrox leading the likes of Strong Guy, Money, Rictor, Longshot, etc.
New Mutants features Cannonball, Dani Moonstar, Sunspot, Karma, Magik, etc. The book is newer and is being treated as a separate squad for Cyclops to watch over and see who could be a leader when he steps down.
X-Factor is the black ops squad of the X-Men. They're a Cyclops' own personal, secret squad designed for murder and doing the job by any means necessary. Wolverine leads Domino, Archangel, X-23, Warpath, Wolfsbane, etc.
Right now, Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants, X-Force, and X-Men Legacy are gearing up towards a 3-month crossover even called Second Coming, with the first issue (a one-shot titled Second Coming 1) coming out tomorrow. X-Factor has a couple tie-in issues to it.
To understand Second Coming, read up on or read House of M, the Messiah Complex, and Messiah War stories. That should give you a good idea of what's going on. Second Coming is the culmination event of the past 5 years.
Also, I recommend Astonishing X-Men, issues 1-30 written by Joss Whedon. AMAZING read. Astonishing X-Men is a throwaway title now about to be revamped, but when Joss wrote it, it was can't-miss stuff.

WTF is going on with Gambit? I mean I understand whats going on with the character and Death returning. However, why was he just basically dropped out of Legacy, cept for the small few panels he got this month and never really developed that story at all anyway?

Yeah, they started teasing it once Legacy switched focus to Rogue. Unfortunately, Legacy started to get tied up in Necrosha, so the focus had to be switched to that instead of Gambit. That's why he's only in a few panels here and there; they had two big stories to focus on (the premier story of the revamped Legacy and Necrosha) but they didn't want to forget about Gambit completely. It's more of a slow (really slow) build than anything. I don't know if you look at previews for the upcoming months, but it's going to come to fruition during a Second Coming tie-in called Hellbound.

Days of Future Past is a must read anyway and that reality will be appearing during the X-Force issues of Second Coming. i'd recommend that over House of M. and while Messiah War is key, i'd say that both X-Force & Cable in their entirety would be better. especially since he said he hasnt been into comics in 15 years.

Thanks for the help from both of you. I did pick up a large trade from my library of Astonishing x-men and really enjoyed it. I think for now I'm going to just pick up uncanny x-men, despite other reviews I like what's happening so far.
Question: with this new event coming out is it really necessary to by all the crossover titles or would one not totally be lost just picking up uncanny xmen?

Pretty big X-Men event. Its gonna tie up Messiah Complex, Messiah War, Necrosha, Utopia, Nation X. You also get the return of Cable, Hope Summers (Mutant Messiah) and Bishop. Without some prior knowledge of Hope Summers, Bishop and Cable, Nation X, what happened in Utopia, you will be most. Your best bet is to google some of the above terms and get some brief background before trying to read Second Coming.

Yeah, you have to buy each of the Uncanny X-Men, X-Force, New Mutants, and X-Men Legacy issues. They all run together. You should really read Messiah Complex to understand what's going on. Other than that, Bishop has been chasing Cable for 18 years or so in the future, the X-Men were run out of San Francisco by Norman Osborn, more or less, and now live on Astroid M, which they titled Utopia. But Messiah Complex is a must-read.
