I'm starting to wonder how long Blu Ray will actually last for before the next new and improved High Definition physical or non-physical platform is released. I mean will it actually eventually replace the Standard DVD all together?
I only have around 40 Blu Rays so far, that being that they are still largely expensive in the UK still. I am a big fan, but I'm currently caught in two minds as to wether replacing my whole Standard DVD Collection with Blu Rays will be worth the money, as probably 2 years down the line I'll be forced to sell the lot and get the next new type of DVD that comes out to correspond with the new higher res Televisions...
I'm just hoping it last's for another 3+ years. However, I can see them canning the Blu ray format in a few years time for 3D, which is such a shame, but it's bound to happen.
I see it being a pretty safe format at this point, but it's still too early to tell for sure. It's still a growing a developing technology. Now that prices are going down, though, and more and more Blu-Ray's are coming with DVD copies of the film, I'm making the transition into buying strictly Blu-Ray, where as before, because of the price and compatibility, I was still purchasing a lot of DVDs and only a few Blus.
I know a few studios have 10 year Blu deals, so I can see it being around for awhile. Anyone that cries that Blu is too expensive is just stupid. Wal-Mart and Target always have super cheap discs for 10-15, plus I've seen players for $100-$150.

I think Blu-Ray will be around for a while.I have way too many dvds to replace so I made a deal with myself to only buy blus that are animated, inclued a dvd copy or are my absolute fav movies. I only have a portable dvd player in my room my laptop and ps3 play blu.
The Miz prefers blondes — especially Barbie: “It’s pretty awesome,” he says about being made into an action figure. “Mattel does such a great job with detail. … I’m way better looking than Ken. Barbie’s been hitting on my action figure the whole time. She actually asked the stocking people if she could hang next to me, but they said no — because it’s PG.”

Blu Rays have a good 10-13 years, they wnat you to get nice and confy with a big collection then up the disk space again. We have the technology for better picture than blu ray now but we dont use it.

I doubt the quality can get any better than what the Blu Ray offers so it'll be interesting to see what takes its place, if anything does, like others have said it'll probably be 3D.

It can, blu ray is only 3 times the picture of DVD. I do video editing and can tell you 25 gigs for a 2 hour movie is heavy compression it can look much better.

I really don't see how it's going to be possible to make another formart clearer than Blu Ray at the current time. I honestly thing Blu Ray will be the final stop with regards to discs being released.
