Well the Japanese NHK boys have already created Super Hi-Vision, which is 16 times the quality and res of Blu Ray, at 7680 X 4320 pixels (33.2 megapixels).
It's only a matter of time before this becomes mainstream over the World and replaces Blu Ray. Plus, there's the period inbetween this with 3D TV and DVD...

I guess blu ray dvds will last 5-10 years, but not more than that, well, it's better to just keep your collection rather than selling them to replace them

I've yet to view Blu-Rays as a "replacement" to DVDs, just an improvement. It's not like owning a blu-ray player and buying blu-ray disks renders your DVD collection obsolete without the use of another machine. Blu-Ray players still play DVDs, and they do so pretty damn well.
I have no intentions of replacing my DVD collection, I've only double dipped on a few movies that I think are necessary to have in Blu-Ray.

LOL at people who think Blu Ray is the end of the line. Even some HD stuff looks horrible, worse than standard IMO, the picture is REALLY pixelated, clear but then has huge pixelation farts so yeah they can do so much better.

I know a few studios have 10 year Blu deals, so I can see it being around for awhile. Anyone that cries that Blu is too expensive is just stupid. Wal-Mart and Target always have super cheap discs for 10-15, plus I've seen players for $100-$150. I bought a second, high end, DVD player towards the start of this year for $30. I regularly buy DVDs new for $3 or $4. I'd say blu ray has a long way to go before you can even compare them. I don't say $10-$15 is "super cheap" at all, since most new release movies only cost that on DVD

There's already 3-D DVD's. I don't think they'll make an entirely new format of discs just for 3-D.

I'm sorry, but "3D" is ing intellectually- disabled. How??!!! 3d is awesome! Because I don't WANT to watch things in "3D" other than the occasional movie. And for the price difference, it's totally not worth it.
