Winning the American League East would have been nice, however, maybe winning the Wild Card was a blessing in disguise. I think the Twins and Rangers are dangerous teams, however, I would rather face the Twins.

I've been a Phillies fan all my life. I suffered through the 90 loss seasons growing up. I dealt with the ridiculous losing seasons after ridiculous losing seasons. I saw the Phillies bring up the rear of the NL East year after year after year. Now I enjoy the fact that the team is actually winning for once in my life. People forget that the Phillies have only been successful for the past 6-8 years or so. Prior to that, they sucked balls. I bitch about Ruiz all the time. Lorenzo bitches because the Yankees didn't win 115 games this year as he thinks they should. Which is worse? Me bitching about one player on the team or Lorenzo bitching because his team is probably the favorite in the AL and he's not happy that they've made the playoffs. He thinks they should've made the playoffs and won 115 games on top of that. Do you see the difference? In any case the Phils get the Reds right? I can't say that team really scares me. Were you a fan when Michael Jordan's manager was managing the team? Even that guy is amazed at what the Phillies have become. I wonder whatever happened to him... Who the hell is Brian Duensing and why is he starting a crucial game 3?

Say what you want, I still think the Yankees are the favorites in the AL.

finally there is some life in this thread...besides the usual "yankees lose, ___wins, great game by ___"
this is baseball, 162 game per season, americas sport. we are all fans of strong opinions and alot of different teams are repped here.
i think all 8 playoff teams without a doubt deserve to be there, i think as a yankee fan im fortunate enough for the wild card. it makes me feel a little better knowing that the other 3 AL teams have limped into the playoffs too...kind of like no one is really "hot" so we'll get to see what each team is made of.
Either way, I do not have confidence in the Yankees facing Tampa in an ALCS (if that happened)
I'd like to see the NL come down to the Phillies & Braves. No disrespect to Reds or Giants fans...I actually like the Phillies on another level, and would like to see Bobby Cox successful in his last year. If the Yankees dont make the WS then I'd like to see whatever NL team gets in, take it all.

In a move that shocked no one at all, the Mets have canned Manuel and relieved Minaya of his GM duties. The move comes about 2 years too late IMO, but whatever. Personally, I take great pleasure out of the Mets seemingly annual choke jobs.

Just prolongs the Yankees death. Now it wont come until the ALCS where either Lee or Price pitches 4 straight games against us and we lose all 4 games by a total of 40 runs

My picks for the NLDS and ALDS
AL: NYY over MIN in 4 TB over TEX in 5
NL: PHI over CIN in 5 ATL over SF in 4
As for the whole "we backed into the playoffs", DEAL WITH IT. I'M SORRY YOUR IN THE PLAYOFFS (exactly). If the Yankees had won the division, yeah, I wouldn't be as happy as I am now. I would rather win the division. But I would be happy just with the fact that I have a chance to play for a championship. And you should too. Would you rather be a team like Boston? Who was a pretty good team this season, but didn't make the playoffs? Listen, think what you want. I can't change your opinion. I'm just saying, be happy that you're in it.

So now that the Mets have gotten rid of Minaya and Manuel, does it look like Torre will take over? Also, they are willing to trade Wright for the "wright" deal. Yes the pun is fully intended.

0 chance Torre manages the Mets next year. Why you think that? He's not leaving LAD because he's being canned or they're sick of him. He's leaving LAD because he's retiring. The guy is 70 yrs old and wants to spend time with his grandkids. Nothing wrong with that. He's hanging it up and he'll be in Cooperstown in 5 years as he should be.

I forget he is that old. still though, it wouldn't shock me to see him manage there.

It will be a dark day for Mets fans if Wright is ever traded, especially if Luis Castillo, Carlos Beltran and Oliver Perez are still on the team.

If you're 70 years old and you've got a HOF resume why would you want to take over a team that's a train wreck and isn't going to compete for several years? Why would you do it in a city where the media is going to eat you for breakfast while you rebuild and lose for a season or two? Why?
