I think he means the money you pay in. Not everyone gets it back. I would assume it would go to gov't things like roads, war funding, paying some fool too much money to live in a big ass house and make stupid decisions.

About 1/3 of it goes to Social Security, Medicare, etc.
About 1/4 of it goes to 'National Defense'
About 1/5 of it goes to social programs that help individuals pay for things... Medicaid, unemployment compensation, assisted housing, food stamps, etc. This portion will increase with the health care bill.
About 1/10 of it goes to paying interest on the national debt.
Another 1/10 of it goes to Community Development programs such as Natural Resource & Environmental programs, Public school aid, Assistance for college students, etc.
About 1/50 of it goes to Federal Law Enforcement (not local) and Federal Government pay.

We have children going to bed without eating..... Elderly going without needed medicines..... Mentally ill without treatment..... Troops without proper equipment..... Yet we donate millions to other countries before helping our own first......
