I know this may be a real pointless thread but idk where else to ask this. I have heard the phrase "Chinese New Year" thrown around a lot on the Jakks board and I wanted to know what do people mean by that? I'm just curious so don't bash me please

If I remember right, a set of RA-style Adrenaline sets were given the old TTL arms (no elbow joint). When everyone complained to Jeremy about it, he said that the mistake was made due to it being the new year in China, and it would be corrected in a future re-release. They were never fixed, I believe.
So now, the phrase "Chinese New year" is used for an all-encompassing term for when Jakks decides to cut corners somewhere.

That was their excuse for AD13, Luthur Reigns/Kurt Angle, and La Resistance. Those 2 sets had TTL arms. And they used Chinese New Year as the excuse why. If it was Chinese New Year, and Jakks weren't just some lying a**holes, then the Teddy Long/Rey Mysterio set would have had TTL arms as well. Why make 2 of 3 sets with TTL arms, and have the 3rd set normal? Chinese New Year my ass.

Yep, Luther Reigns first and only figure had TTL arms and according to Jeremy, it was because of Chinese New Year. I had to buy Bruiser Brody to swap the heads and fix it up, but it's sh*t like that that has really turned me against Jakks, and yet they still have so many loyal fans. I don't get it.

But I do strongly dislike their lazyness and stupidity very much

you know what used to get me how people used to say stuff like oh its no big deal i could just swap out this head on this body and its perfect or i could add the details myself which is not so bad if you had to do it once in a while but it was CONSTANT with jakks and you shouldint have to buy other figures just for the same of making an accurate version of something we should already got done the right way to begin with

What did Chinese New Year have to do with it? Like what difference did it make if it was Chinese New Year or not?

AD 13 was one of the first things that turned me against Jakks. It was a clear case of "They'll buy anything". The lack of respect that they showed on the way out with the last few garbage RA series and the final abomination of a CS series (of which I bought none). I am glad they lost the license, they deserve to. What I never got was how people could defend Jakks and castigate those who voiced their grievances. There was this one guy years ago, I think his name was Graze. He used to freak out when someone pointed out how lazy it was that Jakks fail to include a back design or leave out kneepads, or whatever, with the rationale that we should be lucky to get anything. He must have been awfully poor as a child, having to eat $#!t sandwiches and like them. He also went on other boards insulting people from Figs for being malcontents. Ridiculous.

What did Chinese New Year have to do with it? Like what difference did it make if it was Chinese New Year or not? I've wondered that as well. How would Chinese New Year suddenly fill Jakks factories with TTL arms?

jakks blamed several of their failings on the "chinese new year". as a joke.
it was just another way of dodging awkward questions and basically flipping off the fans, by making a joke, not answering the question, and hoping people won't notice their poor efforts, lack of accuracy, moronic decisions and total lack of professionalism.
i remember jeremy also dodged a few fan questions once by making bobby heenan (who obviously didn't know the answers) answer them instead. personally i don't call that funny, i call it unprofessional and disrespectful to the fans (by jakks i mean, not blaming heenan).
And of course the standard "oh we want to make everyone's figure" and "if the fans want it we'll make it" responses. Which tell us nothing about IF they will actually make them. And of course we never really knew how often Jakks looked at our suggestion board, and loads of collectors don't even look at the suggestion board, so making a petition-type-post could easily have been a waste of time.

Mattel has actually blamed some of DCUC's woes on Chinese New Year, so I'd be careful getting too cocky about that. I don't follow all the Jakks debacles, but when stuff happens in China, it can indeed have a huge effect on the toy business. Likely in the aforementioned instnace, Chinese New Year put them behind which led to them using parts they wouldn't normally.
