1/8 or 3mm elastic cord. You can buy spools of eat on ebay for cheap in various colors.

I've found Hobby Lobby actually carries some decent 3mm elastic cord in their necklace/jewelry making section. They have gold, silver, white and black. if you're looking for more colorful ropes I suggest looking in the section where they have fabric and ribbon, they have more rope/cords over there but they are not elastic, but they have tons of different colors, sizes and styles that most would look good for ring ropes.

5M does your basic jakks ring. if your after a esr/rsr you need more than 5m. 3-3.5 mm is your best bet and you can get 5M for like £1-2 on ebay. search elastic cord.
