So yea, saw the Manics last night in Aberdeen, however they didn't really play much from The Holy Bible, which kinda pissed me off, so I went and read up about it again, but the stuff I found out, stuff about Richey Edwards was ed up, so yea, what do you guys think of this album, and the whole Edwards thing?

I'm not a great fan of The Holy Bible. I really like the song "Yes" and a few others, but The Holy Bible isn't even in my top five Manics albums.

whats the history behind it? Well, to put it short, about 70/75% of the lyrics were written soley by Richey Edwards, and during this time he was self abusing, aswell as over drinking, and wasn't eating and this shows in the music, if you give some of the songs a listen, you'll realise just how dark the album was, its not only got a dark sound, but also dark lyrics. Anyway, after this, just after it was released, Edwards went missing without any trace, nothing, presumed he committed suicide, but there's nothing to prove he did, or didn't, he just vanished. But seriously, check-out songs like "Archives of Pain", "4st 7lb", "Yes" and "The Intense Humming Of Evil", some really crazy stuff

Followed the Manics for many years and this album along with Generation Terrorists is the best they've come up with. Listening to The Holy Bible at the time you could clearly tell that Richey was more or less gone in the mind, which later proved to happen.
The album is so dark, which gives it that extra edge to it, not many albums I can enjoy from start to finish on a regular basis, but this I can!!
Its just a shame that Richey never got the help needed and reach the heights that there at now, cause he deserved it! I believe he was the biggest influence to the guys, and helped them to what they are today, hench why the first 3 and maybe the 4th are the greatest albums they've done and up there as a personal fave of mine among others. Since writing there own material, 'This is my truth.....' to 'Postcards....' they have never matched the standards that the previous albums set, still though they'll always be one the of the greatest bands ever!
Although every song I enjoy off that album, ones that stand out for me are 'Faster' '4st 7lb' 'Ifwhiteamerica...' & 'Die in the Summertime'
