Hogan shouldn't get anything for a parody. Parodies are legal. He needs money that bad that he has to sue a cereal company. So lame.
He was just mad that the CARTOON PARODY jobbed to Barney.

They were protected by fair use. There shouldn't have been a case to settle on. Weird Al doesn't have to get permission from anyone to use their music in such a manner, but he does so for personal reasons.

Parodies are legal and fair game in use for SATIRE !Not for commercial profit all you legal experts out there.Hogan ,like him or not had a valid claim and thats why Cocoa Pebbles and their parent company chose to settle.Worked out great for both because if it went to a jury it would likely have been much more expensive to litigate. The jury would have likely found in Hogans favor and then you would have to get into messy arbitration determining a dollar amount not only for actual use of likeness/trademark character use but for"actual damages" which depending on a jury could have been ludicrous since average people seem to like to stick it to corporate entities in civil cases, which no doubt would have led to appeal...Bottom line lawyers love this type of crap..big bucks..big bucks

The character only bore a passing similarity to Hogan so he would have had a difficult time proving trademark infringement. However, Post clearly didn't want to waste loads of time and money defending themselves. They paid the desperate old man to go away and they'll make another silly commercial instead.
