Not a chance. It's a tax on poor people and ought to be illegal. It's not because it makes money for the state. Strangely enough you don't see high sales of lottery tickets in rich areas of town. And please don't argue that rich people don't want the money. That's ludicrous. Someone who makes $200k a year will take $10 mil just a quick as someone who makes $20k a yr yet the person making $200k doesn't play the lottery. Cigarettes cause your teeth to rot and cause cancer. Should they be outlawed too? It's just like any other vice. If people are stupid enough to do it, they reek the consequences. It shouldn't be outlawed because it's bad. It should be outlawed because it's exploitative. Cigarettes don't actively exploit poor people and take advantage of them. The lottery does. If I run a Ponzi scheme I go to jail. The people who buy into my scheme may well know that I'm running a Ponzi scheme, but they buy in anyway in hopes that they'll get their money back for the scheme collapses. I still go to jail because I'm defrauding people and exploiting them. How is this any different than what the lottery does?

I don't do the scratch offs. I'm greedy, though. I only buy tickets if the jackpot is over 20 million. I figure if I win, I want to win big.

I don't play the scratch off cards. My uncle does, and he can't keep a winner to save his life. He'll win $100 and then go turn it in for 5 more $20 scratchers. But me, I won't play scratchers.
I have played casino games, but that's not the same thing.

Of course anyone would take $10 mil, that doesn't mean they'll go out and buy a lotto ticket to get it. People with less money have more of a want/need to go out and buy lotto tickets in hopes of winning to get rich. Rich people don't care enough because they already are rich.

Probably about 8 years ago when I lived in FL, I worked in a liquor store that sold lotto and scratch off's. I spent around $20 a shift playing scratch off's. Out of sheer boredom.

Rich people still gamble. They just don't play the lottery. It's not that hard to do the math and find out that you've got a much, much better chance with a freaking slot machine than you do with a lottery ticket and that's not saying much since slot machines are stacked against you too.

I've only bought 2 scratchers in my life. Both times I won another free scratcher and then proceeded to win nothing.

I never really have bothered to play the lotto. Most I have won is 2 or 3 bucks. I do recall when I helped my grandmother scratch off a ticket a few years back and she won 500 bucks!
