I was at TRU today here in Vancouver and asked an employee if we'd ever see Defining Moments here in Canada. He was nice enough to check on his computer for me and when he was done his search and shared the information with me I was shocked.
Toys R Us Canada will have Defining Moments figures for $39.99 each.
That's right, $39.99. Not $22.99 like Elite's or Legends....but forty dollars EACH.
I'm not quite understanding how when taking into consideration development, production, manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) and TRU's own mark-up for their profit, how one figure could jump up to $39.99 for one.
I know I'm probably not the only one who's been waiting for a Randy Savage figure for years, but I might be the only one who wil definitely not be buying any figures from DM because of the price. Perhaps on sale, if it's 50% off, but even then that's just like buying an Elite or Legends figure full price.
I'm more than certain than the US will get MUCH cheaper pricing like they always do, this is excluding the currency difference too and that Canadians will be ordering online or running down south to grab their Savage's and future DM figures.
Thoughts?

DM here are supposed to cost as much as EG. They will cost more than EG. That's what the Mattel guy in the interview said.

price isn't an issue for me with Savage, I will pay $30 and upwards if I have to, i expect them to be a little more than Entrance Greats but not ridiculously more

The accessories/detail of the figures don't justify that price point. If you think about the Savage figure, it could easily be released in the Legends line for the same price as the other Legends.
Obviously, I don't know the exact cost of accessories in order for Mattel to make it financially viable to them, but it's not as if they've put extra detail on Savage that they wouldn't put in their regular Legends line.
But, people will pay it for a figure like that, so who can blame them?

I think they'll be 30 bucks. Difference between them and eg is the elite style articulation. An understandable reason for why it would be sold for more than an eg. The difference between dm and a normal legends fig is basically just the package yet it is way more expensive. That's the confusing part, however if your of the belief that dm have a lot more accessories than legends figs then it kinda makes sense. But who really believes that. They may actually have fewer accessories though admittedly greater detail in their fabric accessories. I basically consider them an elite style entrance great which is why it makes sense that they'd cost a little more than an eg. The real problem may be that we're paying too much for eg's to begin with.

It was clearly a business decision on Mattel's end to put Savage in a new line where they could jack up the price on that line because they knew there would be a demand for him. I'm not mad at Mattel for making a business move that will generate profit, I'm just complaining of how ridiculous it is in comparison to figures that are already out, price-wise.
Barbies are sometimes really expensive because they are rare or come with some special accessories or clothing, so you can't really be surprised that they would treat the WWE line the same way. I looked before just for kicks, and saw a Mad Hatter Barbie from Alice in Wonderland and it was $64.99 CDN. It just goes to show when there is a demand, Mattel will take advantage of it.
Lastly, I'm jealous of those people in this thread that actually have $40 to spend on a single wrestling figure. I work and pay my own bills, so unless I come across some extra money or I can snag a Savage for cheaper by some other means, The Macho Man will unfortunately not be joining the rest of my Mattel figure collection.

Doesn't matter if its US$30 or US$50, i will still get a Savage.
Mattel sure is clever at marketing though.

LMAO! I can see that line lasting long! I can see many collectors buying Savage. I can also see certain other figures being made in the line worth buying (even at $30+). But if they aren't a sought after figure, i can see this line warming the shelves. Hell the EG line is already warming the shelves at 4 different TRU I've been to in the last month.

I wouldn't spend 40 dollars on a single figure no matter what it is. There will be other Savages.

But, people will pay it for a figure like that, so who can blame them? Leather. The accessories on both HBK and macho are leather and have printed designs on them. If those kind of accessories were done on the figure in the legends lin, the other figs in the set would suffer big time to keep the deco costs at a reasonable level. Sure, these figs could be in legends but only as: a) A big cutback on the others b) Rubber/cloth less quality to the accessories (vests, jackets, etc). They will probably be a couple dollars more than the EGs because they are elite style and the accessories a bit more premium. Plus, gotta keep it in perspective. This isnt a monthly line, its got only a handful of releases a year so they are pretty much comparable to IE's except in store. Sure people arent too accustom (well those inside the US) to paying like $25 for a single wrestling fig off the shelf but the SDCC taker will probably be similarly priced yet people were happy to pay that.

This is the only thing I really don't like about mattel...their prices. I can't justify spending $40 bucks on just one figure....I don't give a crap who it is! O well once the Macho Madness dies down and they start making other people it will be a selfwarmer.......damn

pretty funny that about a year or two ago, i was like "If they make a Macho Man figure, i'll pay like $50 for it" but now that the idea of paying that much for one figure has come to fruition, i don't like the idea anymore. Even the $20ish pricepoint on entrance greats is pushing it for me. I think i'll hold out for a WMIII Macho Man, but i am interested in seeing what else the DM line has to offer.
