These topics have been addressed in a variety of different threads, but I think it's important to put some issues that collectors may have with Mattel here in one thread and put them into larger context so we can all debate this. I think there are bigger issues over how Mattel's approach is very different as compared to what JAKKS did that are often ignored.
So far I am VERY impressed with Mattel. As many know I was a JAKKS CS fan that actually went the extra mile to help JAKKS sign some guys for the line. Starting CS was a great idea, but as time went on I think JAKKS dropped the ball on this great idea in exchange for greater profit.
As CS went on we saw JAKKS signing more and more meaningless talent and stacking the CS lineups with 9,10,11,12 figures. In addition to increasing the number of figs per assortment, they increased the number of assortments, too. They would tell you that they wanted to do a more complete line, but the bottom line is profit. CS sold well so they signed as many people as possible and put out as may figures as possible.
What happened is you got figures that had reused body parts that didn't fit the wrestler, that were out of scale and had very few accessories, but in exchange you got lots of figures.
I think Mattel is taking a different approach. The company is eliminating the stands to keep the price stable. They're also cutting the number of figs per assortment from 6 to 4 so they can keep quality high. Personally I can deal with no stands and fewer figs if I know the figs I get are great and with every Legends figure done so far I don't see a single detail or accessory that Mattel has left out. These are excellent figs!
JAKKS was certainly easier to talk to, but I think Mattel is more focused on quality. I can only imagine what Mattel would do with Sherri. It would be one awesome figure! Here's hoping they do one.
What does everyone else think?

It would be nice to have stands, but if cost-cutting measures have to be taken, I'd prefer to lose the stands than see the figures themselves suffer.

I'm sorry but I'm not buying it. If they are cutting down to 4 figures per set of Legends there is no reason why they can't fit the stands in their cost budget.
It's not about the CHOICE its about the fact that we are now forced to pay the same price for LESS....which I'm quite sick of having to do with EVERYTHING else in this country now. They shouldn't have to cut anything to keep the price stable.

I just got Chris Masters, Maryse, and Kofi.... and I have to say it feels weird opening these figures and not putting them on stands. The packages themselves feel lighter and it made me think something was missing. Feels incomplete.

Even if it saves Mattel money to not include the stands, it doesn't mean that stores will lower the prices on the figures. They can easily label the figures at whatever price they want. So really, I gotta feeling the hardcore collectors who collect every line is gonna suffer the most. Pay the same price for less.

Id rather pay a dollar more for a figure AND a stand personally.

I'd much rather have quality over quantity as well. The stand issue doesn't really effect me as I just throw my stands in a plastic tub, never to see the light of day again.

I never used the stands; but understand why people are upset losing them.
However I don't like the fact they cut the sets to four figures per series. Besides the fact it will mean a much smaller collection overall; I like alot of the "meaningless talent" that we will probably now never see as a result.
I understand that some people felt the series was expensive with 6 figures at $15 a pop. I'd have a tough time pulling off buying the whole set at once; but I like having the option. And honestly the time it takes between the Legends set coming out; I could buy 1 figure every two weeks or so and still keep up.
If they want to cut costs anywhere; lose all the unnecessary PPV sets. Who needs yet another Cena, Mysterio, Jericho; etc. anyway? And then they could keep the cooler attires for the main line.

The reality is that unemployment is high and is probably going to stay that way but the price of regular goods is going up due to inflation as noted.
The bottom line is that adult collectors don't have as much money to spend on toys so Mattel has to keep the price stable without compromising quality or collectors won't collect. I think our economy is going to be in this hole for a while.

Mattel just needs to release stand packs. Have like 10 in a pack for $5. I would not mind that. We get our stands and they get the money to produce them.

I think a lot of people are ignoring the fact that this is probably only the begining of this crap. This time it's the stands, but what will it be next time? Will there be less detail? Will they take away accesories? It will happen again, you can count on it. They will take away whatever they need to ensure they have a large profit.

Similar to Elite Chris Jericho but with no stand or nametag. We''ll get like a mic or a chair if we're lucky. But it will be okay because the detail will still be good. :/

I'm encouraged that the cost cutting being done is to keep quality up so far, which is much more then we can say for JAKKS. They compromised quality from the start but we were all happy with it because we didn't know any better. CS was the only product on the market of its kind, but now we have Mattel to compare it to and it's much better.

Cutting profitable lines wouldn't help their profit margins, and would be completely irrelevant to the cost of the main line. A basic figure + a stand would cost more to produce/buy than a figure without the stand would cost. That wouldn't change just because they abandoned Royal Rumble Heritage or SummerSlam or whatever.

Not sure how profitable those PPV sets are. All they've been doing here is clogging pegs for a while. This time it's the stands, but what will it be next time? Will there be less detail?. I think this has already begun if the lack of camo/logos on OTL Punk and 2-pack Luke Gallows is any indication. Even Maryse has been given a rather bland attire.
