The World Wrestling Federation Presents...
Royal Rumble '92
Sunday 19th January 1992
Albany, New York - Knickerboxer ArenaThe opening WWF signature flies onto the screen, preparing us for the upcoming broadcast. Vince McMahon's voice then booms onto the screen, promoting the prestige of the Royal Rumble match with a vacant WWF Championship on the line tonight, and hyping the competitors as he continues: Hulk Hogan, Davey Boy Smith, Jim Powers, Greg Valentine, Jake Roberts, Haku, Luke, Roddy Piper, Blake Beverly, Ted Dibiase, Tito Santana, The Warlord, The Undertaker, Butch, The Barbarian, Papa Shango, Sgt Slaughter, Beau Beverly, Pat Tanaka, Rick Martel, Kerry Von Erich, Jim Duggan, Randy Savage, Irwin R. Schyster, Kato, Ric Flair, The Brooklyn Brawler, The Big Bossman, Virgil and Sid Justice! All vying for the vacant WWF Championship! Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan introduce us to pay-per-view, also promoting the undercard to this event: the Legion of Doom defending the WWF Tag Team Championships against the Natural Disasters; Bret Hart defending the WWF Intercontinental Championship against The Mountie; the Nasty Boys taking on the New Hart Foundation; Plus just added this afternoon, Shawn Michaels taking on his former partner, Marty Jannetty!
1) The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Saggs) w/ "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart def. The New Hart Foundation ("The Rocket" Owen Hart and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart) @ 13:43The Nasty Boys were accompanied to the ring by the 'Colonel', as Bobby Heenan refers to him, Jimmy Hart. The Nasty Boys started off by seemingly underestimating the youth of "The Rocket" Owen Hart, as he kicked up a storm, countless armdrags and dropkicks to Brian Knobbs. Jerry Saggs then attempted to double-team him but Jim Neidhart would make the save, evening the odds. The two Nasty Boys proceeded to work Owen as they went for the leg of him, to keep the youngster off of his feet. Neidhart finally made the save as he came charging at the Nastys, even flipping the 'Colonel' into the ring as he tried distracting the referee! Neidhart set up for an elbow drop on him but Saggs took him out. Owen got the tag and nailed a moonsault from the top on a standing Saggs, covering but Neidhart and Knobbs brawling had the official tied up. Jimmy Hart tossed his army helmet to Saggs and he clocked Owen in the head, stealing the win!
The Nasty Boys celebrated their win as the crowd booed, Jerry Saggs and Brian Knobbs hugging at ringside whilst Jimmy Hart joined them, Jim Neidhart dashing into the ring. The Nasty Boys left in victory to boos whilst 'Anvil' attended to the 'Rocket'.
We cut to the backstage area as 'Lord' Alfred Hayes was there discussing how this match between Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty had came about, showing a clip to an episode of The Barber Shop last month, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake seemingly able to reunite the losing ways of The Rockers just for Shawn Michaels to superkick Marty Jannetty, and throw him through the window on the set. Appauling actions were met afterwards, as Shawn developed a more ruthless and arrogant attitude, adapting the name of 'the Heartbreak Kid' and wearing flamboyent clothing.
We go to pre-recorded comments from Marty Jannetty from earlier today in an interview with Sean Mooney, Jannetty talking enthusiastically about how The Rockers lived together and they breathed together. Every day on the road was hot when the Rockers pulled into town. Partys every night, whatever city they were in. Jannetty mentioned how Shawn Michaels grew an ego as such a vile and arrogant person to be with: he was always the sensible one. He always helped Shawn out of bar fights, and helped him out of hangovers. Tonight, he will kick the teeth out of Shawn's throat just like he did to him when he betrayed him four weeks ago.
2) Marty Jannetty def. "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels by count-out @ 11:18The Rockers exploded in this impromptu contest, this afternoon at the Royal Rumble, as these two have such bitter animosity spanning from Shawn Michaels' sudden execution and betrayal of his partner in The Rockers, Marty Jannetty. The 'Heartbreak Kid' wore obnoxious pink tonight whilst Jannetty dressed up in Rockers gear, many dropkicks catching Shawn off-guard, and Jannetty caught the fans affection here in Albany with three small packages, each one almost swiping the victory out of the 'Heartbreak Kid's hands. Shawn continuously escaped the ring, causing the crowd to groan in disapproval at every attempt. Jannetty would get tired and try a dive to the outside just to miss Shawn, Jannetty side-first on the floor! Shawn capitalized, stomping on Jannetty and driving him spine first into the steel steps, working the spine of his former partner. Michaels was sly and devious, applying a back bending submission hold and letting Jannetty reach the ropes just for Shawn to slyly avoid disqualification at the five-breakup count. Jannetty would then try a comeback, avoiding a suplex with a suplex of his own, and Jannetty went for the Rocker Dropper but Shawn dodged and left the ring! 'The Heartbreak Kid' stumbled up the aisleway, the crowd booing loudly at how Shawn was leaving, and he got himself counted out!
Marty Jannetty looked unsatisfied as the referee raised his hand, and Jannetty decided to leave the ring and go running after the 'Heartbreak Kid', Shawn starting to flee!
In the backstage area, we see "Mean" Gene Okerlund conducting an interview with the WWF Tag Team Champions, the Legion of Doom as Hawk begins to talk about how the Natural Disasters have decided to step up to the plate as their next challengers, and they will bring the fight to the big guys. Animal ranted about how Earthquake and Typhoon wander around planning to crush everybody in the WWF, the LOD will show them their limit!
We go to the Natural Disasters as Sean Mooney was standing by, Earthquake and Typhoon both yelling about how they have became in contention to the WWF Tag Team Championships fairly and squarely, taking out every tag team in the World Wrestling Federation. They aggressively told Animal and Hawk that they would take the belts tonight with pride, and show how they are more powerful than the Legion of Doom, and then they will be not only the WWF Tag Team Champions, but also the most dominant tag team in the world today!
3) The Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) w/"The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart def. The Legion of Doom (Animal and Hawk) to win the WWF Tag Team Championships @ 8:45The Natural Disasters were obviously going to be mean and angry going into this one, as Earthquake and Typhoon were really motivated to take the WWF Tag Team Championships from the long reigning champions, Hawk and Animal, the Legion of Doom. Hawk and Animal had to revert to the hard-hitting and equally fast moves, something in which they are not used to doing. LOD, a tag team usually facing smaller teams were focused on a team probably weighing double their combined weight. Hawk tried the lariats from the top rope as Typhoon bodyslammed him when he attempted, then keeping Hawk grounded and trying to put him out with choke grips and sleepers, teasing a big splash with Earthquake. Animal finally got the tag as he ran into the ring, many clotheslines to both big challengers but most damage was done when both of the champs took the Natural Disasters down. A double-clothesline took Earthquake out of the ring and Animal tried to lift Typhoon up for a Doomsday Device, Typhoon with a legdrop to Animal! Hawk was tossed from the top rope by the devious "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart before Typhoon nailed him with a bigsplash! Earthquake held Animal's foot as Typhoon got the three!
The crowd booed as Typhoon celebrated before Animal darted into the ring, heavy shots to the large Typhoon before Earthquake climbed into the ring and the two Natural Disasters double suplexed Animal, then leaving the ring. Cowardly Jimmy Hart escaped from the timekeeper position and handed Earthquake and Typhoon their WWF Tag Team Champions as the Natural Disasters were the new champions! Animal and Hawk looked furious.
In the backstage area we see "Mean" Gene Okerlund catch up with the new WWF Tag Team Champions, Typhoon and Earthquake, the Natural Disasters being spoken for by Jimmy Hart, the "Mouth of the South" denying having cheated to obtain the Natural Disasters victory! Earthquake told Okerlund to watch his mouth otherwise he'll find himself with a bigsplash as well. Typhoon laughed as the new WWF Tag Team Champions walsed off.
We cut to a video of two nights ago in Springfield, Massachusetts at a WWF live show, where The Mountie battled "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Mountie came out victorious when Jimmy Hart distracted the referee and Mountie gave Piper a low blow before cradling a fatigued Piper for the three. With this, Mountie had gained contention to the WWF Intercontinental Championship, tonight facing "The Hitman", Bret Hart.
"Lord" Alfred Hayes caught up with The Mountie and Jimmy Hart as Hart was rambling on about his third match of the night, and he's already led the Nasty Boys to victory; he's already taken home the WWF Tag Team Champions by allowing the Natural Disasters victory against the Legion of Doom; now, he'll go three for three with The Mountie taking home the WWF Intercontinental Championship! Mountie noted how he was in Canada the other day, and a little kid littered in front of him wearing a Hitman shirt. Needless to say, he told the kid to pick it up, and then fined his parents $100! Mountie laughed and called Bret a bad influence, and tonight he'd make for THE better role model.
We cut to Gene Okerlund with Bret "Hitman" Hart as the WWF Intercontinental Champion talks about how he hopes he sets a great example as the champ, how he is a fighting champion and will defend the title regardless of the date or the place, he is there to go out and win. And he knows how sly The Mountie is, as well as the "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart, speaking of how he used to cheat and pull off sly victories for the Hart Foundation all the time in their WWF Tag Team Championships reigns; he cost them the WWF Tag titles at last year's WrestleMania (VII). Not this year.
4) Bret "Hitman" Hart def. The Mountie w/"The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship @ 9:27"The Hitman" was definitely here to show everybody what he was made of, having to take on the raving Jimmy Hart accompanying The Mountie into this match. As noted prior and evident from earlier tonight, the "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart has guided three of his clients to victory, one of which was to take home the WWF Tag Team Championships: without a doubt Hart was here to shoot for a fourth, and take the WWF Intercontinental Championship home, but also the chance later tonight for one of Hart's clients to bring the WWF Championship to his camp. Hart worked over the spine of Mountie, easily outwrestling the obnoxious Canadian Mountie with submissions and working over the knee as well, but this would only last for a short time as Mountie stomped at him in the knee, cheap shots to Bret Hart and clotheslining him, Mountie beginning to work over Hart as well. Bret was disorientated as Jimmy Hart kept taunting Bret from ringside. Mountie locked in a sleeper hold and Bret seemed trapped, Hart was trapped for minutes until Bret shot back, a hiptoss and beginning to go through his mainstream arsenal, the diving elbow from the middle rope; the inverted atomic drop and all, as Bret began to go for the Sharpshooter just for Mountie to send "Hitman" out of the ring. Jimmy Hart clocked Bret with his megaphone out of eyesight as the crowd were furious, Mountie continuing by getting countless near falls in. Hart soon had enough, catching Mountie from the middle rope with the Sharpshooter: Hart making Mountie tap!
Bret Hart celebrated his win as the fans in the Knickerboxer Arena were screaming for the 'Hitman', Bret victorious with the WWF Intercontinental Championship in his grasp. Hart scared Jimmy Hart off as he tried attending to Mountie, Hart victorious, leaving as champion. The announcers turned their attention to the Royal Rumble match.
In the backstage area we see Hulk Hogan standing, talking about how it has been a long winter for the 'Hulkster', with this morbid feud with The Undertaker, being screwed by the supposed 'Real World's Champion', Ric Flair and then by President Jack Tunney, Hogan telling of how tonight when it's all said and done, Hulkamania will be running wild with Hogan as WWF Champion!
Jake "The Snake" Roberts was shown as he mentions how the Royal Rumble tonight is about doing one thing and one thing only, taking the achievement home in which he has never done before, by taking the WWF Championship home with him. He says how he is going to come out on top and will do a darn good job too, and if "Macho Man" Randy Savage ever wants to fight with him, then he can try and have a shot, because Jake Roberts will take his snake and 'shake things up', in Savage's family life all over again.
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan was shown as he goes off on a rant about how tonight it is about being WWF Champion in the midst of controversy, and he will be here for the United States of America, good old USA! Duggan talked about how he is here to defend USA in the midst of all of this controversy, and in the event that Hulk Hogan does not get the job done!
"The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith spoke about how there has never been a WWF Champion that is 100% British. He tells us that this will change, and January 19th 1992 will be the date that a British World Wrestling Federation Champion takes the title belt home to the United Kingdom.
Up next, Mr Perfect and Ric Flair was shown as Perfect talked about how the 'Nature Boy' has been the 'Real World's Champion' much longer than Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, whomever! Perfect tells us that the 'Nature Boy' will be victorious tonight and prove how he is the greatest wrestler in the world by claiming the WWF Champion. Flair said about how he was the man who wrestled sixty minute matches everywhere in the world and represented all the pure technicians who can't cut it, and spits in their faces by being a true champion. He vowed to get the job done tonight.
Sid Justice was shown as he yelled, motivated about how tonight is about the WWF Championship, and how he has waited so long to achieve this shot at the belt. He's found it hard to fight past the various title exchanges between The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan: how it's been hard fitting in between Randy Savage, Hogan, Ric Flair, all of these main event guys. But tonight Sid Justice will secure the job, because he will be the Ruler of the Ring!
5) "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan co-won the 1992 Royal Rumble to win the WWF Championship @ 1:03:52Thirty men entered and it was all up for grabs with the WWF Championship on the line.
"The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase had the misfortune of being number one whilst
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper drew second, both men brawling back and forth. They would be joined by
Rick Martel at three, and he entered in a situation that became two-on-one against Piper. The Scottish Piper would overcome the situation, almost eliminating Dibiase. Fourth was
Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, as he seemed to be neutral, though targeting "The Model". Fifth was
The Big Bossman as he came out, roughhousing Dibiase and nailing the Bossman Slam on Martel!
The Warlord came sixth, holding the bad luck over his head from a past Royal Rumble match, trading fists with Bossman.
Irwin R. Schyster arrived at seven, and he and Ted Dibiase easily eliminated
Greg Valentine with a double clothesline. The Orient Express's
Pat Tanaka came at eight, Pat Tanaka going straight in with a dropkick from the top rope on Piper, then joining IRS and Dibiase in trying to eliminate Bossman.
Sgt Slaughter came in at nine, and he would gorilla press
Rick Martel with ease in moments! Piper followed by easily eliminating
Pat Tanaka by throwing him over the top rope.
Tito Santana came to the ring at ten, and he engaged in battle with IRS, then finding himself trading blows with Piper.
Currently in the ring: "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, The Big Bossman, The Warlord, Irwin R. Schyster, Sgt Slaughter and Tito Santana.
Papa Shango arrived at eleven, Shango entering and using his cane with a skull on top as a weapon before Tito Santana fired at him with a flying forearm. Shango fired back, this mysterious newcomer with open handed chops, using lots of hand movement and somehow making Santana ill and react fatigued. This allowed Shango to toss him over the top.
"Macho Man" Randy Savage shot out at twelve to such an outrageous reaction, Savage clearing house, tossing
Irwin R. Schyster out of the ring! Savage followed up, tossing both
The Warlord and
Sgt Slaughter out over the top!
Virgil arrived at thirteen, and he came to the ring to exchange shots with his former employer, Ted Dibiase.
Haku arrived at fourteen, managing very well with manhandling Roddy Piper, Piper now having exceeded nearly a half hour with Ted Dibiase as well.
Ric Flair arrived at fifteen, and the "Nature Boy" seemed motivated, going right into it with lefts and rights directed at "Macho Man", Flair with the knife-edged chops.
The Big Bossman was the next victim to Papa Shango's magic, as Shango made his hand gestures and 'froze' Bossman as he had Shango in the corner, then simply throwing the cop over the top rope to boos.
Blake Beverly arrived at sixteen, Blake and Haku tossing out
Virgil.
Jake "The Snake" Roberts came at seventeen, the crowd booing intensely as Savage was stuck in the Million Dollar Dream, Roberts teaming with Dibiase and many body shots to Savage taking place. Roberts nailed his patented DDT, then hurling
Blake Beverly out. Flair looked impressed, Dibiase then attacking Roberts! This would allow Flair to save Roberts, crossbody to Dibiase!
Butch arrived at eighteen, Bushwacker Butch strutting into the ring just to be put on 'rewind' by Papa Shango!
Butch eliminated himself in under five seconds! Everybody noticed Shango's powers, and all five men in the ring [excluding Randy Savage] tossed
Papa Shango!
Kato was nineteen, as he came in and exchanged blows with Piper.
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan was twentieth, the USA patriot rushing in and exchanging blows with Haku, then clotheslining Dibiase out of the ring after nearly forty minutes!
Currently in the ring: "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Haku, "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Kato and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan.
Jim Powers arrived at twenty-one, Powers dropkicking
Kato out of the ring! He would then get sidelined by big Jake Roberts, a big boot to the face and then a DDT to Powers. Roberts arrogantly picked up the carcuss and tossed
Jim Powers out in no time.
Sid Justice came out at twenty-two, easily clearing house; big boots to Jim Duggan and clotheslines to Haku and Roddy Piper, then sneaking up on Roberts with Savage in the corner, eliminating
Jake Roberts! Roberts went bezerk as officials forced him to leave!
The Brooklyn Brawler arrived at twenty-three, looking confident. In seconds, he entered the ring just for Sid Justice to force
Brooklyn Brawler out the other side!
"The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith came out at twenty-four, as the crowd cheered, Smith powered
Haku out of the ring as the crowd went nuts, Smith following up with an impressive gorilla press slam on big Sid Justice!
The Undertaker arrived to boos at twenty-five, the former WWF Champion climbing into the ring and overpowering Jim Duggan, and
Jim Duggan got choked over the top rope and to the floor. Sid and 'Taker would then get into a big trading of fists.
Beau Beverly for some reason did not arrive as twenty-sixth for some reason.
Currently in the ring: "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Sid Justice, "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith" and The Undertaker.
"Bushwacker" Luke arrived at twenty-seven regrettably, Luke given an immediate Tombstone Piledriver from The Undertaker! Sid Justice then delivered a sudden Powerbomb to Undertaker to a large ovation, unexpecting this as Randy Savage took credit and dunked
Luke from the match.
"The Immortal" Hulk Hogan came out at twenty-eight, Hogan with two years as Royal Rumble winner under his belt rushed out and cleared house, finally eliminating
Roddy Piper after nearly an hour of being in the ring from number two!
The Barbarian was twenty-ninth, and arrived in the midst of warfare: Sid Justice, Davey Boy Smith and The Undertaker battling it out in one corner, and Ric Flair brawling with Randy Savage and working the ankle of Hulk Hogan in the other! Barbarian did the wiser and joined Flair in working over the ankle of Hogan and trying to eliminate him. Finally,
"The Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich arrived at thirty. Von Erich joined in the battle of the titans, Justice and Von Erich attempting to eliminate Undertaker.
Currently in the ring: "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Sid Justice, "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, The Undertaker, "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan, The Barbarian and "Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich.
The final eight in the 1992 Royal Rumble match, "Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich quickly making this down to seven with a discus punch taking
The Barbarian over the top rope! The Undertaker then traded blows with Von Erich, but Von Erich's power surprisingly got the better of this 'Phenom'. Randy Savage continued the brawl with Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, actually somewhat repairing the Megapowers to battle Flair! A double clothesline to Flair by Savage and Hogan led to both looking at each other, just for Savage to jump the 'Hulkster' from behind before Sid Justice chokeslammed Savage! Justice nailed a Powerbomb on Hogan before dodging a discus punch from Von Erich, hurling
Kerry Von Erich out of the ring. Sid Justice found himself in dire needs though, as The Undertaker grabbed him by the throat and leaned over the top rope, choking Justice as though it were interrogation. Hogan soon broke loose though, trading blows with 'Taker before Hulking up and nailing 'Taker with a Big Boot! Sid would then launch the groggy
Undertaker over the top rope! Davey Boy Smith nailed a Running Powerslam on Ric Flair as the 'Nature Boy' seemed to be running out of energy. The "British Bulldog" picked him up like a pancake, Hogan then running at both men and taking Smith and Flair down with a single clothesline! Hogan continued as Sid Justice went at Flair, Hogan scooping
Sid Justice out of the ring, Flair hanging on the apron!
The Final Four: "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan.
The battle continued as "Macho Man" Randy Savage had his old rival, Hulk Hogan in a sleeper hold, cradled on his back whilst Davey Boy Smith was being held against the top rope by Ric Flair, when suddenly Jake "The Snake" Roberts came out with his snake! Roberts climbed into the ring and Savage quickly got off of Hogan and kicked Roberts in the stomach, a clothesline to Jake before
Randy Savage was thrown over the top by Hogan!
"Macho Man" Randy Savage eliminated!Jake Roberts stalked Randy Savage out of the ring, trying a DDT on the floor but Savage backdropped him! Savage clotheslined Roberts over the barrier before seemingly taking the brawl through the front row, soon up the aisle and behind the curtain! Back in the ring, Davey Boy Smith fired back against Ric Flair, then finding himself in a clothesline war between him and Hogan; Bulldog doing it for the United Kingdom and England! Hogan for USA, both of these big guys fighting for the WWF Championship. Hogan soon got Bulldog onto the apron, and Bulldog tried to spring back in over the top but Hogan clotheslined him and down fell
Davey Boy Smith!
"The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith eliminated!A fatigued Ric Flair saw Hulk Hogan dazed on the other side of the ring and ran up behind him, the 'Nature Boy' clotheslining the 'Hulkster' to the apron! Hogan clung on though and Flair kicked the leg from under Hogan, 'The Immortal One' hanging on for dear life on his knees on the apron, Flair going for another running clothesline but as Hogan fell he dragged Flair with him! Both men fell!
"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair or "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan eliminated! The crowd booed in outrage as Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan traded blows, Hogan with a heavy hand sending Flair away. Referees everywhere as Hogan re-entered the ring, Howard Finkel revealing the situation. President Jack Tunney also appeared as he whispered into Finkel's ear, the 'Nature Boy' backing up the aisleway now escorted by Mr Perfect. Finkel revealed that Tunney will determine the situation, because he feels both men eliminated each other. Finkel revealed BOTH Hogan and Flair as victors, but he would be examining the WWF Championship picture and the action replay shots from this match closely. The crowd cheered as Flair and Hogan went at it again through the security and referees, Hogan tossing Flair over the top! Hogan celebrated in the ring as Flair was outrageous! The Royal Rumble came to close.
