Well, its been quite a year for me, I graduated college which was nice, got my first full time job and finally learned what its like to be in the "real world", then I found out how much the "real world" sucks. I was working full-time for a mortgage company and in the middle of my shift today, I found out that myself, and several others, were being laid off effective immediately due to a decrease in orders the company was receiving. I know crap like this happen, but I'm worried now about where I'm going to end up now because student loans repayments aren't cheap. I know I'll find something, but I'm wondering when and where.
What a great way to end the year, right?

That's tough man. I'm on the verge of possibly being cut as well. At first my hours were lightly cut. Now, for god knows what reason, my manager keeps scheduling me for the types of shifts that are always the first to be canceled.
Hopefully everything works out though. Filing for unemployment ASAP is obviously the best thing you can try to get situated quickly. At least then you can worry about one less thing while trying to get another gig.

Did you steal a stapler? I'm kidding that sucks bro. Try and do some small jobs for people and get money that way while you look. If you have a snowblower do snow you can make a lot doing that. Just hang in there something will come up.

Hopefully you pull through and find something!

That's the reality I wish my friends would face.
In high school, senior year, I had some "friends" who looked down on me because I didnt have college plans at the time. I told them college isnt a necessity to make a living these days. There's plenty of work available, and room to move up, all without college.
And they sit there and try to rebut, but they think college is a one-way ticket to money. They dont realize that college only qualifies you for a job. You have to still go out, obtain that job, and still face the risks of being laid off like every other American.
I'm not saying college is bad or anything, but still. (Not sure what this had to do with your topic, sorry, but the post flashed me right back to those conversation's mentioned above and i had to vent it; good luck with finding a new job bro.)

I struggled to get the same point across to my parents. Now my sister is about to graduate and can't land a job to save her life, while I'm making enough writing without a college degree to cover all my bills. Although I'll be the first to admit that it's practically a miracle that I landed the job I have now. Times are tough, man. Of that there can be no doubt. In regards to the topic creator, I certainly feel for you. As some have said, try to swallow the pride for just a bit and file for unemployment. You've got a pretty good shot at getting it based on your situation, and it's basically a safety net or at least some much-needed money as you try to find more work. Best of luck, bro.

Actually, studies have shown that a college degree equals about a million dollars of extra income over the course of one's lifetime.

Hey I been there man. Graduated from college in 2 yrs ago and was unemployed for 2 yrs. Landed a great temp job in sept and it just ended but atleast I have great experience on my resume. Seems like you had a pretty good job before so with the skills u acquired you should be able to find a better job. Remember everything happens for a reason.

Actually, studies have shown that a college degree equals about a million dollars of extra income over the course of one's lifetime. And I believe it. Should you go to college, and secure a job that pays enough to support a family, more power to you and congratulations, you deserve it for the hard work. (I do plan on going to college btw, just not at the moment). Im just saying, there are jobs out there that will also support a family, without a college degree.
