Seriously. I made a similar thread on wrestlecrap but I wanted to spread my message of Stanford appreciation on my beloved WF. I'd noticed that over the weeks Stanford's improved but this weeks Superstars was like a revelation. He noted Yoshi was trained by Yuji Nagata (pronounced correctly and everything) and then called a Japanese armdrag and a crucifix pin correctly (along with many other moves) and even referenced the Uso's original debut promo. I said when he first debuted a month or so ago that he had a good voice but he didn't seem to know anything about wrestling and never called any moves, and if he did it was incorrect half of the time. Well he's done his homework and he's gotten pretty damn good. He also noted during Smith vs. Regal that DH's dad Bulldog faced Regal at Halloween Havoc 93 which was a cool fact so of course Josh proceeded to give him s*** about it for some reason. I had jokingly said a few months ago that he should be RAW's new play-by-play announcer and I'm ready to say it again, only not joking this time.

But Jack still has my back? He's not that bad himself, and he was behind the 8 ball with me by looking like a little goof and having a high voice. But he's actually good at calling the damn match. Striker gives him s*** too for reasons I don't understand.

I might have to watch Superstars just for this, didn't know he started doing commentary

Maybe start them off on NXT, replacing the god awful Todd Grisham.

I'd agree with this as I don't believe they should just be thrown to the wolves but Stanford is just such a breath of fresh air as he calls the match and does it well. He doesn't talk about Cena or himself or whatever, he just announces. And he has a great voice for it.

Anyone who can successfully reference Regal in WCW is OK in my book.

He was also familiar with Jumbo Tsuruta when CM Punk name dropped him. He knows his stuff.

I agree, I like him too. His voice is like one of those sports announcers on ESPN, it's refreshing.

I loved it when he and CM Punk were paired together and Punk referred to him at "Steve" all the time.

I'll agree that he has improved, but his first few shows were so terrible the only way to go was up. I'll still take the new Smackdown guy over Stanford though.

I dont like him too much. He has a great understanding from what it seems, but he is still too goofy for me.

I have to agree. Every week I watch Superstars and the matches seem good not only because of the talen but also the great commentary provided by Stanford.

I 100% agree with everything you said. I listened to his commentary on last weeks Superstars and very closely on this weeks and he is very good.
I lol'd when he called a butterfly suplex this week and then Josh said "You notice he names all the moves?..." But that's what makes a great commentator in my view. Tazz and especially Joey Styles named basically all of the moves. Now on the other hand, Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole name only finishers and the rest of the match they talk about other things on the show. And that freaking pisses me off because commentary is important to a match, and it could be a match of the year candidate and it could be ruined by bad commentary. I'm sick of hearing "ohhhhhh...what a move by Cena..." and "man that seemed like a painful maneuver..." I noticed Striker likes to say "Ohhhh!" alot. WWE needs a commentator who names all of the moves, or at least most of them. I think Scott Stanford is great commentator.

Yes sir! I really like Stanford, he gives it an "old school" feel, his voice is perfect for a wrestling commentator, I think if JR doesn't come back, announce Michael Cole as GM, move him from announcer desk & bring in Stanford to fill his role.

Superstars seems so much more professional since Stanford has started announcing.
