I figured this might be an interesting topic to discuss. You always see talk of the new year and looking forward, discussing resolutions and what you hope to do in the future, but rarely do we look back and reflect on the previous year, aside from perhaps a brief moment before the clock strikes midnight on new year's.
So, looking back at it now that 2010 is officially in the books, what did you accomplish that you are most proud of? Did you do anything out of the ordinary or make a change/progression in life that will have positive effects?
We should all be proud of ourselves sometime, so share away!
For me, after coming across some of the promotional material I created yesterday, my biggest accomplishment of 2010 was putting on a full-fledged local rock show, built from the ground up on my own.
My father has been in charge of my hometown's 4th of July celebration for the last fifteen years, and 2010 was his final year as the committee celebrated their 20th anniversary. I had long expressed interest in putting on a show, and the committee had always wanted a battle of the bands type thing, but I wasn't huge on the idea.
This year I was given the reigns and a reasonable budget to go out, get bands, and put together a truly unique rock show, outdoors in the park and free and open to the public. I recruited the band in my signature, Sparks the Rescue to headline - their only show in our home state of Maine before they left for Warped Tour this summer. I dealt with management in New York and Los Angeles, record companies and the like, and signed my name to plenty of official contracts that were way above my head. Also on the bill, four other of Maine's most solidified pop-punk and rock acts - The Sophomore Beat, Too Late the Hero, Stop is the New Go, and Legend Has It.
The show went off without a hitch and our turnout was amazing. Just around 1,000 kids making it the largest show any of the bands (other than Sparks) had played to date. It was one of the most nerve-wracking, stressful and all out crazy things I've ever done, but it's something I won't ever forget.
So, fire away with your own stories!
