the product is good, not great. they are trying to push new stars and give us more compelling story lines yet they seem to always revert back to the same old formula and same old guys to main event every show. the booking and writing are terrible but some guys still save the show for me.

- Here's an interesting stat. John Cena and/or Randy Orton have been in a WWE Title or World Heavyweight Title match at every WWE pay-per-view for over two years now. The last show that didn't have either of them in a top title match was WWE's Cyber Sunday 2008 where the main events were Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy for the WWE Title and Chris Jericho vs. Batista for the World Title.

WWE is in a phase of transition, beginning with the departure of Shawn Michaels. There's something about that man leaving that scares the piss out of WWE to start making changes -- lots of them, and each of them fast. Over the past nine months alone, we've seen title runs by Jack Swagger, Rey Mysterio, Kane and The Miz; the rising of stars Sheamus (King of the Ring), Wade Barrett, Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler and to an extent, John Morrison. Cody Rhodes has also come into prominence, and a good number of guys are on their way. So much has happened in not even a year after Michaels left -- just like in 1998, after WrestleMania.
Triple H, back then, got a huge push, and DX reformed into something greater and grander. Austin won his first gold, but The Rock wasn't too far behind. New champions were created and a new era was debuted: the Attitude Era, one that went so far left of what was considered standard when Shawn Michaels wrestled. At the time of his original retirement, he was perhaps the last remaining, or last relevant, link to the '80s. As soon as he was gone, it gave WWE the go-ahead to test the waters for a more 21st century product. And it worked.
And what they're doing now, in the second post-Michaels era, is working. But this new era of wrestling is for the new decade, like it was last time. Call it coincidence or something more, as many other top stars were out for those past nine months (including Taker, Triple H, Batista, Jericho), but HBK is the centerpiece of that group because his retirement from the ring is permanent (like it was the last time). All those other guys have at least one more match in them, and they'll be back sooner or later. Some sooner, some, of course, much later. But they'll be back. Shawn won't wrestle again. And others have to carry on in his stead.
I'm liking the product right now. It's fresher than it's been in a while and I'm loving all the new champions.

im curious of your opinion of wwe in its current state (2010-early 2011) i personally not a huge fan but last nights raw impressed me with the falls count every where match and cage match. So whats your opinion? How I've seen WWF/E turn over the years: Late 80s, early 90s: Lots of bad workers with emphasis placed on size more than anything. Yet the booking knew where it wanted to go and it worked. Mid 90s-early 2000s- Definite vision, influx of talented guys. The booking and talent came together to create something great. Mid 2000s-now: Still lots of talent on the roster, much more than 20 years ago, but the CT has lost their abilities to make interesting characters and storylines.

Here's my opinion..
They need to use their midcard better. Zack Ryder is good in the ring and it's a shame he's doing nothing..And for craps and giggles, you can replace Zack Ryder's name with any other midcarder and it would fit, except with Chris Masters..
The tag division is pitiful and needs rejuvenation..
All in All, Creative sucks.

It has most definitely gotten better in the in late 2010, I think this is just because they are willing to try out new people. I still find it stale and boring to some point, particularly RAW at the moment I just don't see much value in the product.

I still like it, hell I will probably always like it, but damn I just get frustrated at the lack of thought and build of people. I also hate the fact that there is very little mid-card which takes away the point of theUS/IC Titles, and the Tag stuff, or lack there of also pisses me off, but the Main Event is quite good, and the charcters are great, namely Edge and Punk

there is some very good stars atm such as alberto del rio, the miz, john morrison, dolph ziggler, jack swagger, daniel brian, justin gabriel david outunga etc but mostly wwe are still using the big names such as cena, orton, edge. where although they have given the miz and swagger the world title it still seems like wwe are scared to give younger / midcarders the world title

WWF 80's was my favorite era. Today is bad but it is wrestling so I will never stop watching.

Well, the entire product is catered towards kids. The PG label is the problem simply because of the people who are now following wrestling. The entire show is 'safe' because they don't want to lose the fanship of the kids. They can't use their mid-card to any sort of effect because the attention span of the kids doesn't stretch wide enough to care about mid-carders, and thus, the whole show is building up to a main event. They cannot book a PPV with anyone other than Randy Orton or John Cena because they are afraid that the kids won't like it. They have leprechauns and 7 ft giants doing absolute stupid things on what is meant to be a wrestling show to amuse the kids. The PG level and constant monitoring of the product by parents mean that they cannot test the waters and regardless of what anyone says, blood, foul language and a little bit of gore adds to any storyline. I don't see how any other mature fan can't see that the entire product is messed up. If it wasn't for Sheamus and my passion for the sport, I would feel inclined to stop watching.
Additionally, the product is just so green. None of the new guys are allowed to speak from the hearts in a promo video. They cannot build anything from themselves. They cannot help to build for a PPV match from their own words, they have to use a script which comes across as monotonous.
People say that the WWE are influenced by the media. Fair enough, the Benoit deal was an absolute travesty. However, the media DOES NOT pay the wrestler's wages. The fans do. So give the fans a product that they want to see and f*ck what the media says. The fact that there are a lot of people on an Internet forum on the modern days who want to go back to the Attitude era says a lot for the WWE as a whole. Imagine the vast numbers of people who do not watch wrestling anymore who would go back if they went back to an Attitude-era like product.
Although, I'll probably recieve a comment such as 'Don't like it? Don't watch it! KTHXBAI!' As that sums up the mental age of the most hardcore fans these days.

I'm digging E at the moment.
That said, I'm fairly certain I'd administer and non fatal stab wound to a stranger if it meant Jericho would come back.

As that sums up the mental age of the most hardcore fans these days. 100% agree.... now, they don't have to go over the top with it like back then,no Mark Henry/Mae Young sex sessions,no blood every other match,no cursing every 5 seconds.... but, those things, used in moderation, could definitely help spice up the product...what would be wrong with a little hardcore match between Miz and morrison where, say,Miz lets a little color fly? then, imagine how much it would bolster his reputation if he can pull out the victory, even being dead on his feet with the crimson mask? or just someone,ANYONE to come out and say "I'm gonna kick your ass!" to their opponent? you don't have to go the ECW route ,but there's a fair balance between the 2....Christ,i remember during the first "kiddie" era of late 80's to early 90's WWF/WWE that it wasn't impossible to see some blood spilled every now and then....and considering we have tons of network shows with boobs out to there, sonof bitch and bastard being "okay" words now on network TV,and shows like CSI and Law and Order where you see people dead, bleeding, raped, and just generally in a bad way, i don't see what's so wrong with another form of "scripted entertainment" doing some itself...

i used to be a hardcore wrestling fan but started using intrest in 06, the lack of talent and people being pushed too much (cena) that should be. i cant hardly stand wwe now only watch every once in a while the falls count anywhere match last night was good but ended to fast i think if wwe wasnt so kid friendly and they retreated to the attitude way of entertainemnt itd be much more entertaining But anyway, I'd give the current product a solid B. RAW is entertaining and is engaging, especially with Punk leading the nexus.

I try to enjoy WWE simply for what it is now, and that, for the most part, is a product that is far inferior to years past.
But the fact remains, we've grown older and expect more out of wrestling because we've come to understand it over the years, and WWE is simply not catering to us anymore.
With that being said, my interest isn't quite at an all time low (2008 holds that candle - I actually stopped watching entirely for a solid three to four months and just followed storylines online), but it probably won't ever be what it was ten years ago.
With that being said, I admit that, for the most part, the wrestling is better than it used to be, it's in the storylines that they seem to be so heavily lacking.
It's funny though, because I'm much less interested (and because of the wonderful invention that is DVR), I tend to watch less and less full shows. I do a lot of fast forwarding and essentially pick and choose segments I want to see. However, I find that when I actually sit down and watch an entire show, I actually enjoy it quite a bit more.
In the end, the amount of time I have to dedicate to the product dictates my level of enjoyment, essentially.
As others have mentioned though, I think we're definitely in a transitional period. New stars are being created and guys are trying to get their feet wet in new roles.
Creative is the biggest problem - there seems to be one focus, the main event scene. Everything else is secondary to the point of non-existence. Mid-card feuds don't exist outside of "I want your title" formula. That was the beauty of the attitude era, even though some of the angles were ridiculous, there was always a reason to have a match. You can't tell me that creative couldn't be doing the exact same thing now, albeit in a much les risque fashion.

lost interest shortly before HD started... And imho you cant beat the 90's, wcw and wwf, even ecw was ok but nothing special, i feel they're stale, too kid based as ufc and mma has taken their older spot, sad really, UFC/MMA and WWE are two COMPLETELY different things. UFC/MMA did not take any spot the WWE once had. I love the current WWE. most kids i know dont do ufc, and most men i know do, these same men who when 16-> watched wwf and now dont, now all i mainly see wwe is kids, alot wherever i go, less teens and adults than ever, take my cousins, was wwf mad, now ufc enthusiasts, the age difference to show watched..... if you follow what i say, because if im honest, i dont follow what i said, but cant put it clearer =/

I think WWE needs to update their whole product. Alot of the times they tend to insult the attention span of the fans. Its 2011 and storylines that where used in the 90's dont need to be brought back again. We need fresh new exciting match types, ppv concepts and characters that are more real/relevant to today and people can relate to.
I actually think that wrestlers shouldnt be the larger than life characters they where in the 80's/90's because if you look at other forms of entertainment today people want to be fans of people they see as being similar to themselves.

The matches are good but the story lines are just ing boring. It has nothing to do with the PG rating I always say a good story is a good story no mater what the age rating of it is. There is just no good characters that people can really give a crap about. I am not saying they should go back to the gimmick days but the wrestlers just need more personality. there is far to many wrestlers on the roster. Well more than the writers can be botherd to come up with good interesting story lines with. As far as a in ring product goes its far from terrible I loved the WWE title match and the cage match. PPV's though have been average at best not since Summerslam has there been a PPV that I have felt I had to watch. No need to drop back down to 4 or 5 a year 1 a month is fine if the card is not just filled with bull crap filler matches. I would score the current WWE product as 5.5/10 its just slightly above average I would best sum it up as very lazy on the creative side of it.
