I thought he was hilarious. Most of the celebs (RDJ, Tim Allen, Tom Hanks) seemed to take it in a lighthearted way and had some banter with him. Maybe they were joking, but Hanks and Allen didn't seem to take it too kindly. Hanks was like "He used to be a chubby comedian." Then Allen was like "And now he is neither."

To me those gags seemed very much lighthearted and pre-planned.

They did know who Ricky Gervais was when they asked him to host, right? I would hope so, since he hosted last year.

Seriously how could they not expect it? I think he actually talked more crap last year.
Gervais got RDJ good, but his retort was perfect.

Ricky is awesome. He cracks me up pretty much with anything he does.
I liked that sometimes during the awards he would say something awful "to hollywood standards" and there would just be silence, and he'd laugh or seem to enjoy it. F*** em. Ricky's the man.
Take a joke you celebrity bitches. Thats why you hired a comedian to host.....JOKES.
He cant win anyways. he said last year people got on him for not letting loose, or being as harsh as they know he can be.
This year he laid the smack down on their candy asses, and their upset with him still.
and to say they wont nominate him? since when did the way someone acts constitute if they do or dont get nominated. Need I name some of the pieces of S**T who have won that award.
He has been the only reason to watch that show for the last two years. If he's gone now I can go back to my normal Golden Globe routine. NOT WATCHING!

It seemed like he was over it and Ricky was really getting under his skin.
I may have to watch it again.

Gosh Ricky Gervais is hilarious Sure, some of the jokes were mean, but they were also funny. His last line especially made me smile.

I know that sucks for him but banning all of his stuff from ever being nominated is stupid.
I don't really like his work but just saying if he ever did make something that most critics thought deserved to win it would be stupid if they snubbed him for that..

he was def hilarious that night but to say his movies wont be nominated would prove that the awards are a fix, and if he put out something citizen kane caliber and would not win that would me there awards are a sham
not seeing he would ever put out something that good but just making my point

Not usually a fan of his but he absolutely killed. It was hysterical.
If I had to guess, Depp was the one most butthurt over the comments.
Carell & Gervais are great at that back to back thing. You'd really believe they were pissed at each other.

If they deny Gervais or any other actor a nomination based on anything other than the quality of their performance -- and especially if they deny the nomination because some other actor has hurt feelings over a joke -- then they are a sham awards show. Period.
If you don't win an award it should be solely because your work didn't deserve it, not because of some personal vendetta.
