The Brahma Bull. The Great One. The People's Champion. Few superstars reach legendary status like The Rock and it's appropriate, now with his recent return to the WWE, that Mattel features him in the Defining Moments series.
I thought the Entrance Greats packaging looked nice but the Defining Moments tops it. It has an epic look that feels like an exclusive collectible, on par with SDCC Undertaker. I almost feel bad opening my DM's!
This version of the Rock is taken from Mankind's famous "This is Your Life" RAW promo from 1999. It's crazy to think that this segment got a Nielsen rating of 8.4! The attire, complete with sunglasses and the $500 shirt, is a clean representation of that moment. A RAW is WAR mic, instead of the standard WWE one, would've been a better accessory though.
I like that the Rock also comes with his "Rock and Sock Connection" jacket that was presented to him by Mankind. The logos are great and it even looks a bit oversized/baggy like the original one appeared.
The attire and accessories are great but now let's take a look at the Rock himself.
Yes, it's the exact same headscan from Legends 3 but it's really well done, I feel. You can be nit-picky and argue that swapping the headsculpt with the Entrance Greats Rock's, with the longer sideburns, is a more accurate representation of this moment. However, this look is the one I remember the most and prefer to see.
His signature Brahma Bull tattoo is there with all the neat details. In fact, it seems to be a bit darker or more detailed than the Legends 3 version for some reason. I think the linework is thicker or something like that.
The trunks are perfect with his classic, signature logos of gold lettering with purple trim and the Brahma Bull design on his back. My friends had a theory that the color of the trim would be a clue to the outcome of the match. I forgot what purple meant.
Here's a quick comparison between L3 and DM Rock. Although I prefer the DM's attire over the L3 one, I'm still biased towards the L3 version. For one thing, L3 Rock comes with his elbow pads which are necessary for the most electrifying move in wrestling, the People's Elbow. Also, L3 Rock holds a special place in my collection since he was an awesome Christmas gift by MicroDiva! DM Rock, though, is up there in capturing the Great One's likeness and will hopefully be easier to find than the L3 version.
Overall, DM Rock is an awesome figure and probably the definitive version to have in your collection. The Rock was my most anticipated figure and Mattel really delivered. I'm glad to see that there are already two Basic and two Elite versions of him available to collectors. If you get a chance to pick the Defining Moments version, I recommend it. This is most likely one of the best WWE figures that Mattel has made!
