Im sorry as this probably has been answered many times but why does mattel make their pads so stiff its the only thing i dislike about them and do you think they will change to soft rubber in the future?

not sure to be honest, the best suggestion i can give you is to take them off or mix and match them with elbo pads or something.

I'm probably going to get this totally wrong, but from the RSC interviews with Bill from the Mattel Design Team at the recent Toy Fare, he mentioned something along the lines that they were "locked" into using certain vinyl/plastic.

Yes, it has to do with the cost of the vinyl/plastic material and the contract Mattel is under for that material, making them "locked in" at this time. However, Bill also stated they are working on a new combination of plastics for the future which would make the pads more pliable while still being cost effective. On the cloth pad idea, Bill said cloth is highly unlikely because of the cost of production (being very high, mostly attributed to labor) but he also said never rule it out for a future exclusive.

oh another thing to note from that interview as well, was that certain plastics although more pliable, tend to leech onto the figure in the long run. Lots of chemistry to consider.

They said they are trying different materials, maybe even cloth... I dont want Cloth. But maybe the plastic used on the capes for DC Universe Classics for the last couple of waves. I think that would work!

He also said it had to be that guage to avoid them bleeding into the figures as well.
