How come Taker and Austin weren't at mania? that would have made for a much better main event at mania IMO imagine HHH w/steph vs Rock w/Vince vs Taker w/shane vs Austin w/linda! that would have been amazing

Taker was 2 months away from returning from his groin injury he suffered the previous fall and Austin was recovering from neck surgery he had back the previous fall as well. Both were in no condition to compete at WM hence why we got the main event we did.
It's a shame too, because Taker-Austin-HHH-Rock would've been pretty bad-ass if you ask me.

Triple H V The Rock V Stone Cold Steve Austin V Undertaker with a McMahon in every Corner would probably of been the best Main Event in History, if that was the original plan for Wrestlemania 2000. The Match would of been never-ending, the amount of finishers each man would give to everyone, let alone the drama with the McMahon Family being involved.
The McMahons were probably added to the Match we ended up getting as a way to help boost it. They probably wouldn't of been needed had the Main Event featured Austin and Taker in place of Foley and Big Show.

Yeah the McMahon's totally would not have been needed at all if it was Taker-Austin-HHH-Rock. I mean c'mon it would've been THE top 4 guys of the Attitude era in the same match in the main event of WM! That alone would've made it one of the best WM's ever.

as stated above both were out injured.
loads of people think that WWE had plans for WM2000 before Austin went out but they didnt.they knew after Fully Loaded 99 that Austin was gonna be done soon for a year......
why they didnt go with the way Backlash 2000 went for WM Ill never know.to say it was 1 million times better is a collossal understatement.Rock vs HHH (with Rock going over)was what everyone wanted to see.

Oh okay and ya they really didn't need the Mcmahons but just as added suspense i was just wondering cause Angle vs Jericho vs Benoit was a better match than the main event

speculation/rumors have said that originally,as far as a long term plan went, Vince wanted an Austin/Big Show World title main event for WM2000 ,but after seeing Show's skills weren't up to par with where he wanted them,and Austin started to break down physically, a lot was changed....

The plan was Rock vs. HHH vs. Big Show vs. Chris Jericho, according to Jericho's book, hence the four of them being in all the original advertising, then Jericho was replaced with Foley for some reason (whom btw has never beaten Jericho, broski). Not sure why it happened, but that's not froot.

Joker, I'm sure Big Show had it written in his contract when he signed from WCW that he would main event WM 2000/16, thats why he is in there. Vince probably regretted soon after

eh i would have liked it more if it was 2 different matches. I always though HHH/Rock should have been one on one. And i always thought Austin should have been on takers list of victims at wrestlemania

I don't think Taker should have been in the main event, it wouldnt have been good for streak.

I don't think the streak would have been a factor as he was only about 8-0 by 2000, it wasn't that big of a deal at this point. So more than likely would have been in there.
Joker's right the Warrior was finished by 1996, nevermind in 2000, not that he was ever much of a talent in his prime.

when did they start talking about Takers streak at WM?for the life of me I cant remember.I do agree though it wouldnt have been a factor in 2000.

the first time it was kinda brought up was at WrestleMania X8 , Taker vs Flair....after the match Taker stood outside the ring on the apron and counted out all his fingers up to 10 ,which was his record at the time , 10-0 ,but i don't think the announcers mentioned it,or if they did it was quick and not really focused on at all....
not sure when they "officially" started bringing up the whole Streak thing....
