I was browsing at Best Buy yesterday and found a DVD of old 1980s Mid-South Wrestling (Bill Watts territory). Considering I didn't get to watch Mid-South growing up in NY, and it was some of the best wrestling on TV in the 80s, I was psyched to find it available on DVD.
Awesome footage too... the video quality is great considering the age, and the original commentary by Jim Ross and Bill Watts is still in there, as are some of the between-matches intros and interviews. Also, the theme music is intact... you can clearly hear "Another One Bites the Dust" as JYD comes to the ring.
Some of what's included (runs about 2 1/2 hours):
-- NWA Champion Ric Flair vs. Ted DiBiase
-- Ted DiBiase vs. Paul Orndorff
-- Steve "Dr. Death" Williams & "Rob Ricksteiner" vs. The Hacksaws (Jim Duggan & Butch Reed)
-- Junkyard Dog vs. King Kong Bundy
-- Junkyard Dog vs. One Man Gang
-- Butch Reed vs. Rick Rood (very early in Rude's career)
-- Dusty Rhodes, Andre the Giant & Junkyard Dog vs. The Wild Samoans & Ernie Ladd
-- Jim Neidhart & Butch Reed vs. Jim Duggan & Dusty Rhodes
Also includes guys like Iron Mike Sharpe, Terry Taylor, Scandor Akbar, Kamala, Tony Atlas, Nikolai Volkoff, and midgets (including the recently deceased Cowboy Lange).
It's called "Giants, Midgets, Heros and Villains" ... Best Buy had it for $17.99, which was a total bargain considering Mid-South (along with Memphis) is about the only major video library that WWE doesn't own now. You won't see this stuff on WWE 24/7 or WWE DVD releases.
