It's weird but not having watched wrestling for even a year I didn't even realize just how huge the ramifications would be. I mostly just remember being saddened when Vince opened RAW by basically firing Jarrett because I was a Jarrett fan. Vince McMahon was just talking sh*t....none of those guys got fired. Sting, Hogan, Jarrett, Nash.....they sat home and made a TON of money doing nothing just watching the remainder of their WCW money come rolling in. From what I understand, when WCW was bought by WWE, the deal with certain guys contracts were that WWE could pick you up and you would get half of what you were owed, or you could not come to WWE and get the entire thing. I remember Kevin Nash saying something like "So I can make half the money and work or not work and make all the money? That's a pretty easy decision". Obviously the lower tier WCW guys who's contracts were not worth much or who's contracts were almost up decided to take the job in WWE....but all of WCW's big names (except for Booker T) decided to pack it up and go home. Which is why the WCW Invasion failed. I know all of that (especially when Vince did his 'YOU'RE FIREDDDD' spiel) but that he singled out Jarrett right at the top of the show, given the bad blood between them it pretty much signaled that the bridge there had been burned.

Jeff Jarrett jumping to WCW in 1996 and then again in 1999 was enough to burn the bridge waaaaay before McMahon talked some smack on RAW in 2001.... Jarrett made Vince McMahon pay him an extra $300,000 to job to Chyna because his contract with WWF had expired the day before No Mercy and he threatened to not show up and take the IC belt to WCW.

3 people were immediately screwed once Vince bought WCW....
Jarrett....for reasons listed above...
Lex Luger....for telling Vince, even though his contract had expired, that he was resigning with the WWF,only to jump to WCW...he wrestled a house show on Sunday,September 3rd 1995,and showed up on the inaugural Nitro telecast the very next night....i know Vince was pissed because Cornette himself said that Luger had really hurt Vince personally by jumping ship after verbally agreeing to a new contract with Vince...
Madusa Micelli ....for the same thing as Luger, but going the added step of showing up live on Nitro with the WWF Women's Championship and throwing it in the trashcan on national television...

Fun fact: Jamie Kellner, the man who cancelled Nitro, was also responsible for the cancellations of Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, and Freakazoid.
Dick.

Well, in the case of the Spielberg cartoons, it was mostly about advertising dollars...he cancelled them for appealing to the wrong demographic. Kid-related advertisers were buying the ad time, but kids weren't the ones watching.

What if Vince played alongthat he didnt buy the company and still ran Nitro as a keyfabe seperate company. He could of got double the money. well i read in Jerichos book that Vince was gunna do that but cause Bookr & Bagwell had such a bad much [Bagwell's fault as stated by Y2J] Vince changed his mind

I'd loved for Vince to have kept WCW as a separate company and just rake in the profits. Could have worked beautifully for him and for wrestling.

He could've kept all the talent and provided a much more 'competitive' landscape for sports entertainment by having 'promotions' instead of 'brands'...but no, Kevin Dunn got in his ear and told him 'brands' would be best...
The start of the end in mainstream pro wrestling for me...

i remember it very well...there was talk that Eric Bischoff and a company called Fusient Media were going to buy it....Eric was gonna run it.... then, the AOL / Time-Warner merger happened ,and they decided that "Wrasslin" wasn't a product they wished to show or promote on their networks anymore (TNT and TBS).... that right there killed the deal,as there were no TV rights to keep it viable...and the Fusient deal fell through....and suddenly the internet was rampant with rumors that Vince was going to buy WCW,and then it was made real by the official press release/announcement,just 3 days before the final Nitro aired... a lot of people don't remember, they DID plan to initially run WCW as a seperate entity ,probably like an early version of the brand extension.... they even sold tickets to the first event under the McMahon banner...i remember someone posting pics of the tickets they bought....i remember they said "Shane McMahon Presents WCW " on them, and it was somewhere in New Jersey.....but the event never happened... Does anyone anymore info on this? Because this is the first I'm hearing of it in 10 years.
