Two kinda weird things got my attention about this event, and they are really subtle.
1. During the Beefcake v. Poffo match, Mr. Perfect comes out to help Lanny. When he does he is wearing a yellow singlet with black & green on the back. Then when he comes out for the rumble. . . he's wearing an orange singlet with just black on the back. Did he really change just for the main event?
2. Hogan and Warrior have their big one on one confrontation and clothesline each other to death. So as they are laying there the Barbarian comes down and both are ripe for the picking. . . . but there is one problem. . . . nobody thought of how weak it would make Hogan and Warrior look to have Barb beat them down for two whole minutes. Someone watching in the back must have realized this and quickly sent Rick Rude down the isle a few seconds (maybe even a minute) early to even the odds and save their two main attractions from looking like weaklings. Wonder if anyone got fired over that booking gaff?

ah fond memories of RR90.......yeah the Brabarian thing was a booking gaff for sure

Perhaps if they had swapped Earthquake and Barbarian's entrance order wouldn't have looked so bad. Earthquake beating up the golden boys would have been more believable

barbarian was a beast of a man, and perhaps, in those days of workrate being irrelevant, probably shouldve been booked a tad better [the powers of pain as a group as well, for the record]. that mightve, and shouldve, been the start. but yes, i agree, earthquake coming in at that spot, wouldve saved them the trouble of a random rude entrance.

barbarian was a beast of a man, and perhaps, in those days of workrate being irrelevant, probably shouldve been booked a tad better [the powers of pain as a group as well, for the record]. that mightve, and shouldve, been the start. but yes, i agree, earthquake coming in at that spot, wouldve saved them the trouble of a random rude entrance. ya see POP suffered right from the start.after witnessing Demolition take off a a legit heel force Vinceneeded a team that could physically match them....he then made his second attempt to draw Hawk and Animal up north. when this bid failed he went with the POP.unfortunately POP looked like heels,they had no entrance music as faces etc etc to get them over.then hearing fans cheer DEmo and boo POP vince called the double switch at SS88. after this many believe Vince lost faith in POP.he shouldnt have.although Warlord had way too much muscle to perform well Barabrian was an effin workhorse and could have carried the team to better things. |

Warlord and Barbarian were perhaps the biggest waste of talent ever in the WWF of the 80s and 90s. People can look back and say that they lacked mic skills or had poor workrate, etc etc, but in those days, that didn't really matter. Just look at guys who did get main event pushes such as Zeus.
There's no good reason at all why a Barbarian-Warrior feud was never booked, or that Warlord wasn't built up to take on Hogan. He was just as physically imposing and capable as guys like Quake and Sid.

People can look back and say that they lacked mic skills or had poor workrate, etc etc, but in those days, that didn't really matter. Just look at guys who did get main event pushes such as Zeus. I don't disagree with your point, but Zeus is not the best example, being one of the few impressive-looking monster heels to actually get released for being a poor worker. Legend has it that the Hogan-Zeus feud was supposed to culminate with a blowoff match at WrestleMania but Zeus was so limited as a worker that they wrapped it up early. |
