curious as to what got everyone here...i want to know what was your first "moment" in wrestling....like, what made you decide to like wrestling and become a fan? was it the first match you ever saw? first promo? did you watch wrestling but not care for it,til something changed your mind? did you see a wrestler and were captivated by his/her look? WHATEVER got you to become a fan... for me,i've brought it up before...first match i ever saw was Madison Square Garden...Steel Cage.... Intercontinental Champion The Magnificent Muraco defending against Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka.... i never saw anything like it before! 2 men seemingly trying to kill each other! bloody as hell! and then, Snuka, robbed of the title,brings Muraco back in the cage, places him in the center,climbs up to the top of the cage,and leaps! flying through the air he lands on Muraco,crushing him beneath his weight! i was hooked!!  |

I was totally engrossed at the age of 9 by this.then I seen Demolition too and I was totally hooked.

Of course I was only about 2 1/2 years old when it happened so I don't remember quite as well you do probably, but Savage attacking Hogan is definitely one of my earliest memories. I was also obsessed with The Ultimate Warrior during this time so the Warrior/Rude feud hooked me in as well |

Bah, I know I've said this so many times, but it has to be Kane walking down the ramp in his debut, ripping off the the cell door, and taking out Undertaker.
I was like 6 or 7 at the time, and I was just hooked.

I was 5. It was a rainy Saturday afternoon & I was flipping through 13 channels. (This was the time before cable & satellite dishes, folks). I stop when I see Rene Goulet & Tony Garea are fighting The Executioners. I'm immediately hooked. Just when it looks like Goulet & Garea are going to win, a third Executioner rolls out from under the ring & interferes to give the "bad guys" the win.

i watched wrestling occassionally in the late 80s/early 90s, a bit of WWF and a bit of WCW, maybe a handful of times a year. But I wasn't really interested in it, mainly because i didn't realize it was fake, and as such i saw it as a sport. and i've never been interested in sport on tv, always found it boring. in hindsight, i'd have probably have given it more of a chance if i'd realized it was fake.
pretty much my main interest as a kid was superhero tv shows and superhero action figures, and although i wasn't into wrestling on tv back then, i was fairly into the WWF hasbro action figures. i bought a bunch of them. But NOT to use as wrestlers. to use as generic muscular superhero henchmen/thugs. i basically just bought any action figures i thought looked cool.
started watching wrestling regularly in 1995, a bit of WWF but mainly WCW. but it was kinda just a TV show i watched along with a bunch of other TV shows. i enjoyed it, but i wouldn't have called myself a "wrestling fan". wrestling would have just fit into my hobbies under the "tv shows i like" category
it was most definetely the whole NWO storyline that really hooked me into becoming a "wrestling fan" and the first time i really felt wrestling became a passion for me, and my interest in wrestling evolved into a stand-alone interest, instead of just one of the tv shows i watched.
despite becoming a wrestling fan though, i was still collecting superhero action figures and just using a few wrestling figures as henchmen. it wasn't until late 1998/early 1999 that i started collecting wrestling figures as a separate collection. mainly because of how great the toybiz WCW figures were, so much better than BCAs and everything else that came before.
so my interest in wrestling grew even more when i started collecting wrestling figures. my interest also grew when i started getting more into video games, and the WCW Mayhem game came out on playstation, followed by WWF Smackdown. they were amazing games at the time.
so yeh, i'd say the roots of my interest in wrestling can be traced back to a few points/phases in my childhood:
-superhero action figures >led to> buying WWF Hasbros
-watching a lot of television >led to> watching WCW saturday night/nitro regularly
-the NWO storyline >led to> increased interest in wrestling
-Toybiz's WCW action figures >led to> wrestling figure collecting
-playing a lot of video games >led to> playing WCW Mayhem

first match that got me hooked was hogan vs bundy in a steel cage match...dont ask me how or why,it just one of those moments i fell for.

Was a little Hulkamaniac when I was younger, but what made me a solid fan was Steve Austin leading into his match with Michaels at Mania 14. The entire build was amazing.

i remember savage being whipped by a belt, hogan running to the ring to save savage by whipping whoever the heel was with his belt. i automatically for whatever reason loved randy savage

I actually have two...
The first was in 87'. I went down to a friend's house and his brothers were watching Wrestlemania 3. I watched in awe as Ricky Steamboat & Randy Savage went at it for over twenty minutes. Then I watched as Hogan slammed Andre. My first experience turned out to be one of the greatest events of all time! Needless to say I was hooked on WWF from there on out.
The other came in 88'. I was at my Great Grandma's house, when I turned on the NWA for the first time and I watched Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson defeat Lex Luger & Barry Windham for the Tag Titles. Barry had attacked his own partner to align with the Horsemen. And that betrayal blew my young naive mind in a positive way.
And 24 years later and I'm still a huge fan.

The first moment that I recall paying attention to pro wrestling was when my dad and uncle were watching it in 1983 or early 1984. My uncle was furious because they were showing footage of the Iron Shiek beating Bob Backlund for the title, and he hated the Sheik. His reaction to the match made me think wrestling was something worth keeping an eye on.
I'm not sure what exact moment made me a lifelong fan after that, but I definitely got swept up in the birth of Hulkamania, Rowdy Roddy Piper as a heel, and Mr. T teaming up with Hogan (Mr. T was one of the coolest people on the planet to a young boy in 1984-85, so anything he endorsed was automatically awesome).
So I guess you could say the Rock-N-Wrestling Connection era in general sealed my fate as a fan.
I also distinctly recall the first time I ever saw The Junkyard Dog, and was enamored with how fun and charismatic he was to watch. This was around the same era though, and I can't remember what came first.
