Some Superstars are so popular that it's only natural that they get multiple releases. In some cases, like Rey Mysterio, it makes sense with all the different attires. In the Undertaker's case, though, it's a bit of overkill since his basic look hasn't changed much lately. Add the fact that, until his recent Elite version, he's used the same headscan since Series 1 and all the Undertaker figures just look the same to me!
When I heard that Undertaker was part of the Elimination Chamber PPV series, I didn't think much of it. I mostly look for debut figures or Divas from the Basic series. When I finally saw the pics of this Undertaker, though, I thought he looked cool. I came across him several times at stores but the timing was never right. Either I was on a budget or I just had too many other pick-ups at the time. In the end, Undertaker was always left behind and after a while, nearly forgotten. However, Fate would once again bring me face to face with the Deadman when I saw that he was clearanced during RSC's recent 4th of July sale. A few days later, my package arrived with this ominous Phenom...
The only thing I remember about the Elimination Chamber PPV, where this figure is based on, is that Undertaker was burned by his own entrance pyro! Fortunately, his coat took the brunt of the blast but it was still amazing that he went on with the match after suffering burns to his chest and face. You'd never guess by looking at his figure, though, it's mostly a standard Taker with his red demons design on his tight. The red designs are my favorite ones.
Ok, the tattoos and same headsculpt are all there, so this sounds like a normal Basic Taker. Thankfully, Mattel decided to change things up and give us something different: Undertaker has his singlet pulled down. Yes, this is an angry Deadman that means business!
Considering that Undertaker doesn't change his look much, I felt this was a neat variation that made sense. We even get a rare look at his BSK Pride tattoo. It's a very easy repaint, just a simple band around his waist without any details like hanging straps. Still, it's a nice change from the norm and I'm glad Mattel went with this unique approach. Elimination Chamber Undertaker is another welcome addition to my collection and will be reserved for special occasions where the Deadman needs to unleash hell!
